Yep. That was the sound of 4 General Electric F101 engines In full afterburner mode, producing a thrust of totally 120,000 pounds-force..around 300 feet above the guys scalp...talk about rush and crazy dopes...A bit lower and they would have been crispy burgers...

Of course, an F-15E flew directly overhead in full burner while I was working on another aircraft at the E.O.R. pad... blew out my left eardrum... (ear protection is not infallible at those decibel levels)

We had a couple of dozen aircraft in for the 50th anniversary of the end of WWII, to do a flyby parade of downtown Honolulu. About 90 minutes before Air Force One lands, a guy from Honolulu DOT walks in, with a landing light pole from off the end of the runway, that's bent at a 45 degree angle or so. He says "You might want to check your aircraft." The F-15E guys came in not long after, and said "Hey, our pilot says he landed right behind that B-1, and he hit some debris or something, you might want to check him out."
We went out and checked the B-1, nothing. Went to the F-15, and the aft fuselage, next to the #1 engine had a landing light, and wiring sticking out of a whole about the size of a doubled fist. Oops.

You should hear those things from the inside. They scare the hell out you on the ground. I got to fly in a B-25 once, and those things sputter and pop and make you think "Oh god we're gonna die" while they idle.
