National Guard are apparently on the streets of the MIT shooting event now.

Nation Guard has apparently been confirmed as in the streets... Is this normal?

A witness says he heard explosions and gunshots before the suspect was taken into custody. WBZ-TV’s Lauren Leamanczyk reports that the National Guard is at the crime scene in Watertown.

National Guard is only called in for natural disasters or for major, large scale civil disturbances, like riots and large scale mayhem. I've never heard of them being involved in the apprehension of suspects or assisting law enforcement on manhunts like this. I can see state, federal, and local law enforcement all jumping in and getting involved in an intense man hunt. But the national guard is not law enforcement, is is a state's military.

So if it is indeed the case, and the National Guard has indeed been called up and is currently involved, then no, this is FAR FROM NORMAL. In fact, it's pretty friggin weird. Unless whatever is going on in Massachusetts has evolved beyond a manhunt into something bigger. Either way, it's pretty disturbing.

Any way you can confirm the presence of National Guard?
