I have followed someone on here with an ongoing health issue, and I think it helps those who do make a thread about whatever it is, certainly you do not have to be alone in this, and others could benefit. I believe in planting seeds.

As for which replacement, get online and do your research what is available, find out what is available in your area, then look for reviews. A big factor in success is confidence in your surgeon he/she should talk with you about your replacement options openly, Dr.'s tend to have 'favorites', he/she should be able to tell you why they prefer one over another. Always keep a skeptics eye when reading reviews or any other bits on information online.

It looks like you have plenty of hospitals in your area, do you trust your Dr.?

Part of my angst has to do with the fact I haven't talked to the actual doctor who will be doing the surgery yet. He is an orthopedic specialist who was just hired by the VA full time. So far I have only spoken to the PT doctor who made the referrals. I am being fitted with a custom knee brace for my left knee because I have a ligament sprain on that side. He feels I need it to be able to function and do the pre-op physical strengthening exercises.

I am doing all the research I can find on the web and any personal experiences anyone might have had. Thank you for your encouragement.

I think part of my angst is that I live alone. No one to really talk to except my ATS family.

I can't believe it, but here it is a year later and after many postponements and delays, I am finally having the surgery. I going in on the 19th of May to have just the left knee done. Because I live alone and have no one to help I will be going into a rehab facility after about 3 days in the hospital. This alleviates a lot of anxiety. I will thank everyone ahead of time for your thoughts and prayers. I will let everyone know how it went.

Well .. I know it's not the same thing but ... our dog just got a new knee. She's 11 and obese. She blew it out chasing critters in the back yard. She's doing great now .. 2 months out from surgery.

Good luck with your new knees. I hope it goes well for you.

I haven't had my knees replaced but I had my left hip replaced, it was one of the best decisions of my life. The recovery period was about 3 months total. Physical therapists came to my home 2-4 times a week for the first month.

Wish you luck! Being pain free opens up a whole new world!

I have never had knee replacement. But one of my friends needed both of hers replaced, and she did both at the same time.

I wont go into detail since I just saw that you have decided upon one at a time.

Good luck with your surgery, and I will keep you in my prayers.

I dunno know about the knees, but swimming is not only low/no impact but great for your circulatory system. Good luck losing the rest of the weight.

couple of things for you to do before you let the butchers have a go.

The first would be to start taking 2 limes a day blend them all up skin and all the weight will fall of you, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.

Secondly you need to restore the minerals in your knees So that requires Borax and Magnesium borax will grab the calcium out of your soft tissues and put it back where it belongs as well as strengthening them there are various reports on how fantastic borax is for our bones if you research Rex Newnham this guy has done about 40 years research on it and was the reason the australian government banned borax as it cured arthritis amongst other things (can't have our governments looking after us can we)

I would also stop drinking tap or spring water chlorine and fluoride are toxic to our bodies and fluoride will weaken your bones, The minerals in spring water are inorganic and your body cannot use them. so distilled water is the best option for you 50% of your pound body weight in ounces plus 10% so if your 200lbs you need 110 ounces of water a day never drink with a meal always 20 minutes before and an hour afterwards as this affects the bacteria in your stomach and the uptake of the nutrients that we get from our food.
When you take the Borax start on a really small dosage as it will remove a lot of the poisons from your body and you could go through a herxheimer effect and this puts a lot of people off.
remember don't take my word for it go and research this yourself but I guarantee you this will help you no end.
