Here is a video about Potassium Iodide, the only "medicine" you can take in a nuclear emergency. In this video we cover everything you need to know, where to get it, how much to take, when to take it, and how it works.

Supposedly you can also take Iodine solution and paste it on your neck, arm pits, inner arms, and other various areas of Nodes to block the effects of radiation.

It is also allot cheaper.

If we ever get to the point in OUR history where we are going to need that, you might as well forget it because the end will be inevitable at that point.

You use the words "WE COVER". Are you trying to promote an item that you are selling?

I'd probably not count on solely transdermal delivery of PI in an emergency to load the throid. However its good to know, likewise that certain ions such as sodium, chloride, etc may also reduce bioavailablity of iodine

I say WE for no other reason than people contribute to the videos. I am not selling anything.

I am with Tropic. The pills are $10 for a two weeks supply. I considered putting what was said about topically applying iodine but it isn't as an exact science as the oral KI.

with carefull mathematics and precission chemistry - you can make a 2 molar solution of pottassium iodide and them with further maths calculate a safe and efective " daily dose "

while this approach is more tecgnically challenging and time consuming [ at least in the set up stage ] - it is infinitly more versetile - and cheaper

versitility - you csan use a measured volume of the KI soln as the ` base ` for on demand lugols - just add a pre weighed sachet of elemental iodine - shake vigorously - and bingo - lugols soln for external wound cleaning and water treatment

ecconomy - the exact cost may vary - but hear [ UK ] expect to may aprox £10 GBP for a 100g bottle of medical grade KI crystals from a reputable chemicals supplier or medical outlet - the current adult dose of KI to prevent thyroid damage from iodine isotopes = 135mg / day so if used for nothing else than protection against radioactive iodine - 100g of KI will produce 740 man / days protection , how much will 740 135mg pills cost again ?

Ok, so it provides some protection if you eat food contaminated with Iodine 131.

What we would like to know now is how do you deal with being microwaved by high-intensity gamma radiation......that being the most likely cause of death if you see "the flash"?

Potassium Iodide is not the only medication that will help you during a nuclear accident. Also non-radioactive supplements only help in accidents where the zircaloy cladding is breached and fission products are released. In less serious accidents like the one that happend out side of Chicago a couple days ago where the containment is vented but only release irradiated steam containing tritium, there is nothing one can do besides get out of the effected area. Back to supplements. Potassium Iodide (KI) is a good one because Cs is a K analog in the body so KI also blocks the uptake of Cs to the body. But you need a higher quantity of K then you do Iodine so taking other K or Li. Supplements is recommended. Also KI can make some people sick. Larger doeses of it will certainly make anyone sick. Antiseptic Iodine solutions wich contain elemental Iodine dissolved in ethenol is a good substitute but should be rub on the skin over lymphnodes and not consumed. But all of this depends on people being informed of the radioactive plume heading for then because because these methods of protection have to be implemented befor contamunation occurs. But as seen in Fukushima, Chrenobyl, TMI, and every other nuclear accident that has occurred the gov. Will most likly not inform the public of core damage to prevent panic and by the time they do (3 months later in the case of Fukushima) it will most likly be to late. But this is still important information that every one should be swear of. Also these methods only work against internal contamination and not external Gama radiation. If you are effected by one of these horrible situations the best this you can do is leave the effected area and stay away for at least 300 years.

Fortunately this is the 5th part of the surviving nuclear series. Check out the first 4 parts for the answer to this question.
