There were supposedly a fair haired but swarthy skinned powerfully built short people on the canaries that the Spaniards wiped out, there was supposedly a statue of a man on a horse pointing west on a the west cliff of one island, when the king of spain heard he sent a ship to get it but it was damaged in a storm on the way back to spain and lost to history except for the written account and there are small terraced pyramids on the islands.

Both the Phoenicians and the Romans had trading posts, at least, on the Canaries.

The Canary islands were known in antiquity as the Western edge of the known world. Homer referred to the Islands of the Blest, lying westward of Maurusia (modern-day Morocco) (see extract from Strabo). The Canaries have also been associated with Plato's description of the island of Atlantis (see extract), though most modern historians discount this suggestion.

It is likely that the first people to discover the Canaries were early Phoenician explorers, originating from Sidon and Tyre in modern-day Lebanon. Herodotus claims that a Phoenician expedition circumnavigated Africa in the 6th century BC (see extract). Carthage, a north-African Phoenician colony, sent a colonising expedition of 30,000 people to the west of Africa in about 425 BC (see extract from Hanno). Phoenician coins are claimed to have been found as far afield as the Azores. Thor Heyerdahl sailed from Africa to South America via the Canary Islands in the Ra, a boat made of papyrus, in order to prove that the journey was possible for ancient mariners.

Yes and they were master mariners so that is more plausible, also there were supposedly pheonician inscriptions found on a stone in the amazon (Cant remember the web site but no photos were produced) still even the Neanderthal seemed to have made rafts or canoes as there spread was not consigned to land with ocean bridges so people have been travelling by water for possibly hundreds of millennia.

I do however believe that there are very vast tracts of land sunken that were once walked by living people's and now are lost to history with only legends to remind us.

In Kircher’s book, 9 pages ahead of his Atlantis Map he shows a map of South America.
We can see he did not think the two maps were of the same place.

No need to simply 'believe', it is a proven fact

It was an honor to have my thread selected for the radio program. The men did a good job keeping Plato’s honor intact but the program failed miserably in discussing the point of the thread. Which was:

How come the map seems to correctly show an underwater feature?

As someone else once said in defense of the map, “It is like finding an ancient skeleton full of bullet holes. But then saying they could not be bullet holes because no one back then had bullets“.

The evidence is staring us in the face and yet it is being disregarded because Plato must have been talking morals.

This is the modern excuse. If the map is correct then history books will have to be rewritten and we can’t have that now can we.

More mention was made of the map of South America than Kircher’s Atlantis map. One might wonder if the radio personalities even looked at the underwater feature.

It is kind of frustrating that we have no way of going there and take a look! and those who can, is not willing or haven't got the money for it! Frustrating! I wish I had a boat and a deep-sea robot!

History books get rewritten on a daily basis, please compare a history book from 1813 and 2013 notice any difference in 200 years?

There is another reason you're idea isn't flying - think about it some more

We’re talking MAJOR rewrite.

There are lots of reason people think it could not be, but the map seems to show the same underwater feature. So how could it be mapped if it was always underwater?

Plato gave a very detailed layout of how big Atlantis was and what it was comprised of. None of this detail is necessary if all he wanted to do was tell a moral story.

His writing also states that all the Athenian armies were drowned at the time, so no reason to think the original Athens would have survived either, as the whole area from Istanbul to Crete at that time was above water.

Plato’s grandfather Solon herd the tale from a group of Egyptian Priests at Sais, around 560 BC, which they knew from ancient tablets and writings on columns within Egypt.

Plato says Atlantis was ruled by ten kings before it disappeared. Egyptian mythology states there was originally 10 god-kings, who ruled in a foreign country. They were called Auriteans. Sanchuniathon in 1193 BC calls the same kings "Aleteans". This was 600 years before Plato was born.

Ancient texts in Egypt, Greece and Mesopotamia refer to the 10 god-kings, and also list their replacements, which occurred at around 9850 BC. Some Egyptian texts were also said to have had maps of Atlantis, including its round capital city. Athanasius Kircher’s 1665 map is based upon an older Egyptian version of the map, and it may show only the southern most island of Atlantis, as the two landmasses north of it should also have been above water with it. One of those is circular in shape.

Manetho translated the Egyptian king lists in 250 BC. There is also the king-list at Abydos, the Palermo Stone and the Turin Papyrus. Manetho tells us that the first kings did not rule Egypt, but a foreign country in the west. Egypt was originally either a colony or a conquered nation.

• PTAH . . . . Hephaestus
• RA . . . . . . .Helius
• SU . . . . . . . Agathodaemon
• SEB. . . . . . Cronus
• OSIRIS . . .Osiris
• SET. . . . . . Typhon
• HORUS. . . . . .
• THOTH. . . . . .
• MA . . . . . . . . .
• HORUS. . . Horus

The old Egyptian word for Cronos is Seb, which later became called Repha. In the Old Testament the Hebrew word for giants/titans is Repha-im. In Greek myths, the Titans are the sons of Cronos. Zeus fought against Cronos and defeated the titans by throwing a ball of fire out of the sky. It burnt the land and boiled the sea. Zeus imprisoned Cronos at the bottom of the Ocean in Tartaros.

There is a reason Homer says Tartaros was located west of Gibraltar, under the Atlantic Ocean.

Nothing about the ancient world is "hidden."
You just have to have enough curiosity to learn about it.
If you're too lazy to make the effort, it's very easy to say "THEY are hiding our past!"
