Agreed.

Plus, theres a blast from the left which has knocked him over, he can't run to the left due to the fencing. By the time he's been helped to his feet another one has gone off behind him, so to be honest, i'd say forward a few yards was a) The only way to go, and b) the sensible way to go whether thats to finish the race or to escape.

Hard to say though, we are not him, and we weren't there.

Nevertheless, I still wouldn't use the word, "inspiration". Maybe he was stunned by it all and unaware, but the only inspirations that day were the ones who helped.
