I just put my hand on a large crystal rock I had in the yard and it makes me feel better. I was a skeptic about this at first but have found that it works even if you do not believe it. The cold crystal seems to stimulate my liver or something and my stomach makes all sorts of noise. It's not something you can carry around, weighing over fifty lbs, but it seems to work for me. It isn't even a valuable rock, there are rocks like it at the local mines. I suppose any crystal rock like this will do the same thing. I can't say weather the ones that they sell work but I am now a believer in rocks having healing and pain relieving properties. Nothing with calcium in it will work though, I do not feel anything off of rocks that contain calcium.

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. Crystals do nothing for except you believe in their powers. Meaning you profit only from the placebo effect and you loose a lot of money in the process.

My sister has done reiki for almost a decade, and even she admitted that it only really works for people who believe in it. The stronger the belief, the stronger the supposed effects.

All the available info must lead to the conclusion that crystals are only effective for believers as well. Meaning they do nothing really. Except look a bit pretty, I´ll grant you that!

I have a few crystals at home but the one that I use most is a white (clear) quartz. I carry it with me all the time, I can cleanse it in sunlight, moonlight or by pouring fresh water over it.

When I use it during a reiki session (I am level II Reiki practitioner), I place it in the "crack" of my massage table and have the person lie down on top (they cant feel it physically). What it does, at least for me, is expand one's Aura and purifies the energy around me( and the other persons in proximity). I feel that it's all about belief and intentions.

When I cleanse it (I use the Sei He Ki symbol for this), I transmit the intention to purify it from negative energy and for it to continu helping me along my path. I have been using it for over 2 years now and if I ever leave home in hurry, and leave it behind, I will feel weird, sort of like when you dont wear your watch, something is missing! You can also use Cho Ku Rei after to give it a little boost although not necessary. You see, Reiki can be usefull in many ways!!

I do not know a whole lot about other type of stones/crystals, though there are many books about them, I have others at home but I don't use them as much. Just remember that each person is different, The white quartz might work very well with me but maybe it would not work at all for someone else.

You do not choose a crystal, it chooses you. Dont ask me to explain it, but anyone who has found one like I did, knows what I mean. The one that is for you will naturally stand out of a display(if in a store) or will appear to be shinning brightly if in nature. You will just know which one is for you when you find it.

Hope this helped a bit.

I don't want to go to deep or technical here, but I will give you some brief guidelines on crystals.

Crystals all have their own frequency, this is scientific fact, they vibrate ad different rate, your body also vibrates, and in fact everything vibrates. The main thing with crystals is to choose the correct one for the purpose you wish to achieve, whether be attracting wealth, improving health, protecting you from negative energies. There are a myriad of things you can hope to achieve with them and so it is best to think about your goals and then research the gem stone that is associated with what you want, there are a multitude of websites you can trawl for this information.

Once that is done then go chose one from the type of crystal you need, as you put it, one that speaks to you.

Now having done that, you are on your way, but in truth it is only the start. You crystal will of been handled by many people before you, and will be imbued with some of their energies, both positive and negative, and so it must be cleansed, you can wash in water, but remember that tap water is processed as is bottled water, it really needs to be washed in a fresh spring, and even then it does not truly be cleansed.

The best way is with salt, a candle and some visualisation, place the crystal in a bowl on top of some fresh salt, light a candle the vibration from the salt and the burning candle will dissolve any negative energies picked up by the crystal on its travels. Leave the crystal there until the candle has finished burning. Then comes the visualisation, search on the web for techniques on how to do it. Essentially you want to focus your energies into the crystal so that it picks up some of your vibration and becomes in tune with you.

After that carry the crystal with you and it should create an attraction to what you seek to gain. Don’t expect miracles. Carrying one to attract money is not going to will you the jackpot on the lottery, but it should see your fortunes increase, more things going right than wrong. Remember to charge it often, once a month and do use your own energies to charge, simply placing in the sun won’t do anything to tune the crystal to yourself.

And most importantly enjoy their beauty and marvel at their intricacy, remembering that crystal has been around for millions of years, it is genuine earth history

I have been interested in and using crystals for many years now, if you are looking for some solid information I am sure you will find the "LIITE" Series (Love Is In The Earth) by Melody very helpful, the latest in the series is encyclopaedic in size and information! I usually don't respond to threads of this nature due to all of the haters/naysayers who have no knowledge on the matter but find it necessarry to ridicule those who believe, the reason I did respond and this is IMPORTANT, you must be very careful in making elixirs and which crystals you use for them, MALACHITE should never be used to make an elixir as it is poisonous!

If you want more information U2U me and I will get back to you, I am at work now and all my reference books are at home!

There isn't really a problem with other people touching, picking up or holding your crystals as long as you clean them every so often! If you can't let lie in sunlight you can put them in rock salt for a while to cleanse! You could also put your crystal which need cleansing on top of a crystal cluster to "recharge/cleanse"
Enjoy your crystals, they DO choose you and you may find that they will move on to someone else at some stage once their work with you is done!

Hi Polly! The Love is in the Earth series of books now numbers six or seven, some of them are just the information with occasional photographs of selected crystals others are "pictorial" which focuses mainly on the pics of the crystals and the latest, I think Melody said the last in the series, is huge and filled with info and photos! Well worth it's cost! I met her here in Namibia when she came to do some research on local crystals and she autographed my first three books! An amazing person with a wealth of knowedge in the field of crystals!

One of my favorite books... Crystal Book Link

If you are a beginner to Reiki, Healing Touch or energy work, its best to do a lot of reading and working with your new stones. Cleanse them in salt water. (Be careful though, some will not do well with salt) It is nice to have a stone of every color and vibration. As your practice grows you will notice your collections grow. It becomes an addiction, kinda like ATS

If anything you can enjoy the beauty of the earth. People collect stones all the time! Have fun!!!

It's hard for me to be a skeptic about the properties of crystals anymore since I have experienced the help that they can give a person. I spent a lot of time studying this and found that science does acknowledge that this is possible. I looked at some actual evidence, not someones interpretation of it.

I don't think you have to buy a special stone though. There are rocks out in nature that work just fine, and they are free to find. A crystal doesn't have to be pure or clear to harbor a frequency that is good. I think the bigger the better myself, if you are going to try to get a balancing effect, why bring out the small artillary. Go stand on a mountain or some rock formation containing crystals.

I carry a little rock everywhere, it used to belong to an ancient Native American, left on this lot with three other little stones. It was common to bury things that were precious at a ceremonial site, a gift to the earth. What was important to those people long ago is nothing to us nowadays. We have different wants than them. Our needs are no different. Proper food and good water, shelter, something to do, and companionship of our kind is all we need.

One of my favorite stones is just a regular quartz rock, given to me from my children from a river in the mountains!! I have a "collection" of stones that I used to work with a lot in the hospital, but mostly, I enjoy the beauty of the morning sunlight creating spectrum's of colors for my eyes to enjoy!! The little things in life.....sometimes we do not realize the significance of the small....

People buy jewelry with expensive crystals on it yet they say that crystals have no effect on the body. They don't understand that our attraction to these stones has a reason for being there. It doesn't matter if the stone is a diamond or just an inexpensive piece of quartzite.

The most valuable of the crown jewels are made of crystals that are considered today to be of little value. The most valuable things in this world are made of stone. Why is that.......it is because of the properties of the crystals in the stone. the shape of a stone adjusts it's frequency. Our shape is controled by the frequency we vibrate at interacting with our DNA. Change the frequency and our shape changes, sometimes temporarily and sometimes permanently.

It is better to adjust diet for a permanent fix, using our own body chemistry to adjust our shape and perception. The crystal should be used as a guide to do this, a feeling to strive for. It is like having a tutor to guide us through life. Quartzite does vibrate at the approximate frequency that we need, Lapi Lapizi (not sure of spelling) is supposed to vibrate even closer to the right level frequency of the average person..

Hi rickymouse! We meet again! Hehe!

I would also like to know why, if gems and crystals had no power or energy, why are they so often referred to in the bible? They were used on the breastplates of the priests, on the ark of the covenant, they are listed and named, why, if they were just used as decoration surely it would have been said that those items were decorated with stones of various colours but that is not the case!

I am glad we have the testimony of someone, a one time sceptic, who has witnessed the effect and has benefitted from the power that these stones hold within! Great posts rickymouse!

A sidenote to W810i

Take care of your Moonstone! They should never be left in sunlight for an extended period of time or in close proximity to a heat source, they are a very soft "wet" stone and if they dry out they will lose their colour/sheen and have been known to crack!

en.wikipedia.org... Also the Mecca stone. Different stones have different properties, the combinations of certain stones can be like a library of frequencies, touching them in different places can cause different effects. Different parts of our body vibrate at different frequencies also, that is important to note. This makes their shape different than another part of the body.

All life is very complex, we cannot compare ourselves to another person, we are individuals that vibrate at different frequencies based on our individual genetics. These differences in personality and shape makes life interesting. If everyone was the same shape and thought the same it would not be an interesting place, we would not need others to balance our energy. Life would become boring and we would start to vegetate. I like meeting people who think different than I. Some have a hum drum lookout of life and others have so much energy and are exitable. The young should be full of energy, they need to look towards life as a fun thing but must also learn to respect the rights of others at the same time so they don't turn to the dark side.

Every time we walk barefooted on the beach we are in contact with lots of crystals. Maybe that is why it is so calming. When we get older we do not walk barefoot on the beach anymore, maybe it is why we feel old.

When we walk along the shore barefoot, the charge that is on the surface of the lake travels up through us. This energy flowing through us can refresh us and help us heal. You don't need a crystal or mountain to balance our energy, just a walk on a beach.

On top of that, the sand wears out the buildup of dead skin on the feet allowing toxins to exit the feet from drainage points there. This keeps us from getting sickly. There are people who give ionized feet baths to help people detox the legs, seems to me it would be cheaper to walk on the beach more.

Good thread OP.

I was at a gem and mineral show once and I picked up a piece of selenite and I felt instantly uplifted and felt that something in me tingled and went up through my head. It's kind of hard to really explain the feeling I felt. Anyway, I really wanted it because I felt that it wanted me sort of. I couldn't afford the cost of it, so I didn't get it. I still think about it and wish I could have bought it. I have another piece of selenite now, smaller and one that I could afford. But it's just not the same.

To answer your OP though, I love rocks and minerals. You mentioned one of my favorites: malachite. I also like citrine and one other you mentioned, I forgot which one. The way I use them is simple. I don't like a lot of ritual type stuff so I keep it simple. I place them around my house, I keep them in my pockets, I wear as jewelry (simple, like a quarts on a black cord, also I have bracelets of rough tumbled stones, I don't care about gem quality), I have one I use as a pendulum.

I don't know if this is ok to do, but you might be interested in a thread I posted some time ago. www.abovetopsecret.com... Ha! I just realized it was my first thread I ever posted. Anyway, It was written when I was discovering the metaphysical properties of crystals and stones. Though all my life I have liked rocks in general.
