Nicolas Maduro Elected Venezuela President

Venezuelan electoral officials say voters have narrowly elected Hugo Chavez's hand-picked successor as president in a close battle.
Winner Nicolas Maduro campaigned on a promise to carry on Mr Chavez's self-styled socialist revolution, and defeated a two-time challenger who claimed the late president's regime has put Venezuela on the road to ruin.
Officials say Mr Maduro, former acting president, defeated Henrique Capriles by just 300,000 votes. The margin was 50.8% to 49.1%.

Having just got in from a night out (its now 6.25 am) checking on the news I see that Maduro has won the Venezuelan election.

For me this is not good news. My wife is Venezuelan. She voted today (for Caprilles).
She is in Venezuela at the moment. I have been speaking to her throughout the day about ongoing developments.

Some things she told me are.....

Apparently Maduros twitter account was hacked
The internet in Venezuela was temporary blocked
People were unable to make cell phone calls
There were lots of reports of Chavistas with guns trying to intimidate voters

Personally I believe Caprilles was the only hope to get Venezuela back on track. Its such a beautiful country with lovely people but crime and poverty are out of control.
There is so much natural wealth in terms of oil,gas gold etc . There is no need for the poverty.
Maduro does not have a clue how to run a country. Needless to say my wife and her family are very upset.

I know opinions are mixed about Chavez and his legacy but until you actually live there and have a sense of the reality of the situation then most opinions are unfounded.

Well going to get some sleep now. Thought i would share the news. All comments and opinions are welcome

Venezuela may be actually making its first steps towards a comeback.....
Look how China has moderated over the years....every generation softens the hard line definitions.....

Venezuela has always had a lot of natural wealth, and poverty was also terrible before Chavez.
All that wealth was in a few hands and in the rural district people had nothing.
It is much better now then it was then.

But maybe things are going very well in the UK (not), but most of the world, if not all , has to deal with a crisis. Even in Holland, where life was abundant, things are bad.
Everywhere the crimes rate has been going up and up and up, so why is it Chavez' fault there is more crime in Venezuela now. Before him Venezuela was also a dangerous place to live.
That is the same shortsighted way of looking at thing as people in the states have. All their misery is Obama's fault. They forgot that things have been going down for a long long time.

That said I really doubt Maduro is the best choice, but time will tell. Going back to the old system isn't an option either.

The country has been divided whereas before even though there was an economic and social divide the people were still united. Now it is either pro Chavez or opposition

The vast majority of police and national guard (whom look about 15 and patrol civilian areas with assault rifles) are pro Chavez. Chavez supporters ,be it due to family connections ,or what can only be described as a total ineptness to do ones job ,literary get away with murder.

Chavez had a chance to change Venezuela for the better and although I am sure his intentions were good in the beginning he failed on pretty much all accounts. Before the country was run by dictators who raped and pillaged the wealth,Chavez was no different and although I agree with nationalizing a country's assets investment needs to be made in order for them to keep working ie... the electrical grid.

Muduro only narrowly won by capitalizing on Chavezs death. He ,I am assuming will be much of the same. pretending to be helping the people while providing "aid:" to Bolivia and Cuba. I hope I am wrong but I feel he will always be living in Chavezs shadow ,who will be made into a demi God ,Just under Simon Bolivar.

Ahhhhhh, the lament... If only, if just only the wealthy and greedy could just be given the chance to run the world. Oh how much better things could be. However, the wealthy played their card in Venezuela some number of years. Let them reap as they have sown.

Me personally, I'm very concerned about the 50/50 supposed division in voting I'm seeing so much of over the last few years. I'm thinking the people have become so horribly dumbed down they can't see the scam in front of their faces. It's so disarming and empowering at the same time. The whole world has become a television spectator sport for the weak minded. The price of admission is simply a low enough IQ.

The very sad thing to me is that how easily the minority of a people will sell out the majority. Sell them even into slavery just so "they" get the "good life". How ashamed I am to witness humanity every day. Those that love to enslave and those that love to be a slave. It is heartbreaking.

Evidently they have the same vote counters as Obama and company.

The NWO has long bragged about managing SElections to it's own preferences . . . while working all sides against the middle.

I wouldn't worry about it.... people elect the successor to a man with an "Idea" and "cult of personality" behind him in hopes that the message/movement will continue but in the end the movement was that person and no one can replace him or be as charismatic or influential as the man himself... next time there is an election this guy will be the fall guy for everything gone wrong

What are the chances that this new Venezuelan Dictator has anything to do with the Bombings in Boston? Maybe it was revenge to poisoning Hugo Chavez with Cancer.
