Racism alive and well

many times i read in various forums and sites that people state that "we now have a black president, racism is a thing of the past." i came across this article and was saddened when i read it. we still have a long way to go.

please, no flaming. just would like to see a respectful dialog on how we can improve as a species.

I would have to see this in order to decide if they were discriminated against.

Hmmm initially sounds quite shocking - but the end of the article mentions that they were traveling on an employee ticket program - which seemed to have a dress code requirement... I guess it makes it slightly more acceptable if that is the case? I'd need to see it in writing though

Ya know, if we stood up as human beings and told TPTB and the media we were fed up with the term "racism" being constantly used to further divide us, we JUST MIGHT........be able to stop it!

Do some research on "tribalism". It just might open your eyes as to, know matter what, we will have people fighting over their differences!

The term "racist" has run it's course! We have laws in place to protect everyone supposedly, and the constant use of this word is going to do nothing more than create more tyrannical laws and prevent EVERYONE from being able to speak freely!

I think there-in lies part of the problem, to create a law supposedly to tell people how to think creates the backlash problem of people doing the opposite.

Now if we all just let it be the problem wouldn't exist. By pointing out that we are "all the same" we are in fact highlighting the differences.

Does that make sense? lol

Also can it not be perceived as favoritism and unfair to those whom may be victims in reverse? I think you can see where I am going with it...... In other words, when a law protects one group, and that same group violates the law that protects them to attack another, how is that law considered constructive when it does not adhere to the same protection for everyone?

Humans are far from being free of ignorance! It also doesn't help when the government creates laws to just ramp the problem up! But that is all part of divide and conquer now isn't it?

I'm inclined to agree, though it does help that two white and Filipino passengers were wearing the same sort of attire.

If this, in light of that, should not be made a race/ethnicity issue, it could be made a class one...worker bees are under a different code than wealthy paying customers.

Sorry the only people that hate are people that are ignorant. I was born before 1980 and I am an American and I don't hate anyone. I dislike a few people but it has to do with who they are and not what they are.

Do not spread ignorance by saying only people born before 1980 and are American hate.

Tribalism is a thing that's certainly alive and well,here in South Africa.My husband sees it at his workplace(a goldmine)every day-Xhosa,Zulu,Swazi,etc-they will work together,but at breaktimes,and socially,they usually pefer to not mix,choosing each to stick to individuals from thei own tribe for friendships+chat+general socialising.

Some years ago in my country there was a tribal-faction massacre-and when one of the murderers were asked:"Why the babies,the children too?" he replied:"A snake gives birth to a snake" I'm not saying there are no exceptions,more so among the more sophisticated,younger generation,but in general there is and propably always will be, either outright enmity+disdain+feelings of tribal superiority,or at best,a lesser inclination to interact socially between members of different tribes.Tribal faction fighting has claimed many many lives even just in the past few decades,and in the history of Africa,millions.And who could ever forget the hellish atrocity that happened in Rwanda?
