I know our governments transparency has sucked more of late than in years past but I would hope if they seriously thought we were heading for war, they would tell us.

They have been telling us. Just yesterday they leaked the DIA nuke assessment and awarded a posthumous Medal of Honor to a Chaplin killed in Korea. Aside from coming out and saying "We are preparing the public for war" I don't think they could be any more clear.

This link you give there, looks like doomsdaying. We get the picture NK may start a war but it's talking about Russia, Iran, China. Oversensational much?

Bedlam,

As a fellow Government worker, I must advise you to chill with the computer info jargon.... the readiness conditions are an indication but not necessarily accurate as bases do conduct FP drills all the time and the FP Con is not for pubic consumption.

I can attest that the current condition posture for overseas bases are much too relaxed to be of any concern.

When we, the US and SK, conduct Team Spirit joint exercise, NK always makes noise and then they conduct there "Drills" at the same time.

Hell, they, NK, shot at a SK boat and killed some sailors a few years ago and we still didn't enter a war.... Same stuff different year.

The only time we've been at DEFCON 2 was the Cuban Missile Crisis. Even during 9/11, we were only at 3.

Different branches and units can be at different DEFCON levels. Most assume the current "DEFCON" level as regarding the missiles. They no longer officially release this (used to, on NORAD's site, but not post 9/11).

There is some confirmation (but it is sketchy sources) that we went to DEFCON 3 (generally speaking) today...

www.infowars.com...

Friday, April 12, the US raised its nuclear alert status to DEFCON 3, Condition Yellow (out of 5 levels), stating “There are currently no imminent nuclear threats against the United States at this time, however the situation is considered fluid and can change rapidly.” Many believe that North Korea will launch their test missile on or about April 15. Japan has instructed its armed forces to shoot down any North Korean missile that heads toward its territory.

Contrary to comments from the White House Thursday, the Pentagon reported that “North Korea probably has nuclear weapons that can be mounted on ballistic missiles.” This is a very significant admission by the United States and a dangerous change to the Korean situation.

China has mobilized its military and is massing near the border with North Korea. This step was taken after North Korea placed a mid-range Musudan missile ready to launch on its east coast and its “dedication of more facilities at the Yongbon complex to nuclear weapons work.”

According to some sources in Washington, the Chinese military mobilization is not directed at deterring Pyongyang but as support for North Korea’s steps.

No, it isn't. Things have changed as of the other day. The Pentagon released info that they now believe NK has the capability and has weaponized nuclear warheads. This is a complete game-changer, when they have made the threats they have made, and a move to DEFCON 3 would certainly be warranted by this.

Japan has instructed its armed forces to shoot down any North Korean missile that heads toward its territory.

I had totally called that, by the way, hehe....

I disagree with this though. This was two-fold. One, to prevent refugees, and two, to have units in place in case China needs to go in and help clean house to maintain that buffer.

When comparing Iraq to our current situation I am left only with confusion. We THOUGHT Iraq had WMD's, so we bombed the hell out of em. Here we have NK trying to put a nuclear warhead on a ballistic missile, and

we're waiting.

With Iraq, we didn't have to worry about ticking off Russia and China, and we had a UN resolution authorizing the use of force.

True, the base commander can alter the local FPCON (Force Protection Condition, i.e. base security level) to suit local conditions, including drills. However, if it's a drill, they'll set it higher than the recommended condition. At any rate, the recommended FPCON out of NORTHCOM is still alpha at present. (rechecking...) even the local conditions at bases in Japan and Okinawa are still FPCON alpha.

They will all bump to Bravo or Charlie if we go to DEFCON 3. They haven't. The actual DEFCON is considered secret, so I'd get in real trouble if I looked and told you it wasn't 3. The FPCON is not classified, so I can tell you it's still alpha right now. It's just not publicly announced on the civilian internet, although it's posted at any gate.

I really don't think that the general public would be told what defcon we are at.
I'm sure that's being closely guarded ...

Given the sites that are posting that, I'd suspect they're getting that info from Hal Lindsay's website. Or one did, and the others are copying the first one.

That can only be stated for your unit/base though. So this may be just for SAC and missile defenses. Or, more likely, we're still at DEFCON 4, if your THREATCON hasn't changed.

The general recommendation is alpha, coming out of NORTHCOM. Looking at bases in the NK area, they're all alpha too, even though they're theoretically in range.

eta: ugh, off to the salt mines again. This week I do day shifts. What's that bright thing in the sky?

I'll read the status off the gate announcements on the way in.

I remember the news saying the defcon status has changed in the past.. even white house briefings on TV when the status changed.. but this hasn't been done in years.

I know your intentions are good. But, as has been stated by others. Our Government is not going to publicly announce actual status on a public site.

That would be like letting your enemy know your next move in advance....

Des

I completely agree with you, but I gotta say; Since when does our government care about letting our enemy know our next move? (oh, that's right. When its politicaly beneficial!)

Russia and North Korea border city of hunchun, in air-raid drills

2013-04-12 18:16:14 China News Network

Hunchun, Jilin, China News Service, April 12 (Xinhua He Baoqing) hunchun city in Jilin province held a anti-11th air raid evacuation exercise, which is a city located in the tri-border city between China and Russia for the first time held in urban communities in such activities.

This walkthrough consists of evacuation preparedness, evacuation, evacuation returns in three phases. 11th the whole practice officially began. Advance the alarm, the security protection team emergency build-up, increased vigilance. Three minutes later, sirens sounded again, under the participation of the people in evacuation guide near the rapid, orderly withdrawal of air defense basement escape. In the aerial defence basement, rapidly set up a first aid medical professional team. 10:30, disarm the alarm, evacuation of personnel from the bunkers in order return to the open field, end of the walkthrough.
me i would rather go, than be left with the aftermath.

30 years before you could come out if at all, for it is not like ww2 only 2 get used but over 10,000 would be used in a full out ww3. US France Russia China North Korea India Pakistan, there are other country's as well Israel Iran here is the link, it does not list Iran www.fas.org... . well you get the idea of how bad it will be.

I don't really know much of anything about this, but I would suspect there is nothing there, because it is in regards to terrorist threats on US soil. We are talking about a blatant, nuclear threat in North Korea.

Well why not ask NORAD www.norad.mil... or www.northcom.mil... and see if i am telling the truth there is no threat as of yet, DPRK actions need to go further than words or , having more missiles ready, or launched before an alert is issued.
