I think it's an extremely good idea and I'd do the same if I had knowledge of their identities. They do not deserve anonymity or any rights to privacy in this country. Where the heck were Rehtaeh's rights to privacy while being violated and humiliated. I praised a previous victim for going against the court's ruling and outing her aggressor's identity.

Say what you (general) want about vigilantism, but it WORKED in the Steubenville rape case.

Don't know why Anon has to "threaten" to "out the boys" involved. Why not just do it?

Not only should they just "do it", they should out the names/addresses of the individuals responsible for the non-action of the police.

What is "outing" them going to solve though? I mean are you gonna drive 200 miles or so to talk mean to them? It solves nothing. The only ones that can do anything are the police unfortunately. Everyone in that area likely already knows who was involved so it's really pointless. Plus you are putting other innocent people at risk. These kids may have done wrong but they may have smaller siblings who could be greatly affected either physically or mentally. I get the point of wanting justice...we all want that. I just don't agree with this method.

If this girl was just a semen pit, as some have said, then the aftermath of her actions would not bother her to the extent that she strung herself up.

This festered for a long time, before she could not take it anymore.

These star football players have already had their names outed on 4chan, it is only a matter of time before they are outed 100%. I have been watching all their social media, and I can tell you 100% they are squirming and trying to back peddle, back track, hide their identities etc.

All to no avail.

They should go turn themselves into the local detachment of the RCMP.

The truth will set them free.

The “hacktivist” organization Anonymous says it knows the identities of at least two of the four boys involved in the alleged gang rape of Rehtaeh Parsons and are threatening to release their names and locations unless the RCMP charges them.

Full story

With so many people vowing vigilatism, is this a good idea that Anon outs these boys?

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

Did this girl not have a dad or a big brother? I realize this is the caveman way and doesn't within the safe confines of modern society (like I care), but it wasn't all that long ago that these type of incidents were either handled by the cops or else they were handled by Dad or another close male relative, with a baseball bat, length of rope, and a pocket knife just sharp enough to tear open a scrotum. There has always been a segment of society which was comprised of the dregs, individuals who shouldn't even be alive, but for whatever reason were defended by enough of the remainder of society to be allowed continued existence, so the actual crime here doesn't exactly shock me. The complete lack of pride, protection, and testicular fortitude of the males in the ever increasing number of female victims' lives, however, I find highly disturbing. Guys, if you can't defend the sanctity and honor of the women and children in your lives, then your own lives are pretty damn sad.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

absolutely but i think the biggest difference isn't the drugs but the fact that everything is recorded now and everyone can see what you did not just at that school but the whole world one thing to have a rumor circulate but another to have visual evidence Ive considered that maybe that's the reason for suicides now a days because they feel they cant escape it i know rape happens and its a despicable act but we all know usual at parties drunk girls+drunk guys+another person with a cell phone =controversy (sorry fore the big run on sentence)

it seems the conspiracy is getting legitimized in the comments section of one the articles(no i wont link it) on the matter the aledged rapists names were released and another tech savvy member on that site managed to find out one of the names of the aleged rapists is the son of a RCMP officer so this might explain why this case took 3 years to even be investigated.......shady business

Or

Out them.

i dont think they could be charged as adults under Canadian law as they only try murders as adults if they are under 18 and even then not always

Well, considering I just watched the documentary "Dear Zachery" and don't have much faith in the Canadian justice system now, I hope they step up and arrest these rapists. Even if they aren't able to charge them as adults, they need to get the greatest punishment the law will allow. I hope the Canadian police and courts don't disappoint. It could be a very bad move for them. Everyone's watching.

In the US today, there is 2 "justices." The kind you pay for at several hundred / thousands of dollars per hour, which takes you to trial and gets you off, or the kind that is appointed to you, which encourages you to plea, and gets you thrown in jail.

On the enforcement front, Counties like Maricopa in AZ have a reputation for ignoring rape crime, and focusing on high return crimes, like drug enforcement.

Right or wrong, it is that perception which drives the mob, and which promotes vigilantism. We ignore these root causes at our peril.

oh i agree i wish they could be arrested for the rape but there in lies the other problem even if they have video of them raping her(which they claim or at least pictures of it) the defense would just argue that she had consented to it(even though she was 15 when it happened and age of consent in Canada is 16) so as far as rape charges i think they would have to be statutory in nature (due to her age),even then the best chances they have for a conviction are those on taking/filming/posting child porno. i just hope what ever they are convicted of they get punished and that this incident effects them for the rest of their lives negatively (hard to get a job anywhere as a sex offender, let alone a kiddy porn peddler )

also as it may have gotten lost in my other large wall of text from what i have read in the comments where the names of the alleged rapists were posted some tech savvy member managed to find out that evidently one of the boys is the son of a RCMP officer.......might explain why they dragged their feet for 3 years and did not want to investigate the matter as daddy didnt want his precious little snowflake charged and may have covered it up......

You may be right about the statutory rape part, but if the prosecutor is worth his weight, he'd argue that any girl who was drunk and vomiting would never have been able to consent and wasn't in her right mind. Any male with integrity would never try to have sex with a girl who was stumbling around and vomiting.

Anon doesn't give a flying crap about this case, the people doing the "outing" are her family under the banner of Anon. Watch that awful video and tell me I'm wrong.

Don't fall for the latest white girl sob story. You're being distracted.

(And tip: don't post the exact same comment here on ATS that you posted on other websites if you want to stay anonymous. I now know a few of your HuffPo handles.)

most likely true but with no victim to testify and evidently no blood work done or a rape kit to confirm that she had in fact consumed alcohol(unless the evidence shows her drinking drinking during the assault) it will be nearly impossible to prove and again im not trying to defend them just point out how the legal system works its not what you know its what you can prove so to speak

for example the defense could say she may have had the flu and that is why she was puking(if thats even on the video),if they have video of her engaging in sexual activities and she's not adamantly screaming rape/stop/dont the same defense attorney could also say that she consented to the gang bang, the problem comes from the fact that the victim is not alive to give testimony and with no SAE kit or toxicology reports from the incident stemming from the fact that she did not report it initially(as is often the case sadly with this kind of thing) means they do not eve have evidence to present of that kind of charge

what they do evidently have is either video or photographs of the event which is why i think the distribution/possessing child pornography is the best route to go

and on that topic even though anon is trying to compel justice by their actions if they are in possession of said porno and sending it amongst each other to try to id the perpetrators they to will run a afoul of Canada child pornography laws (although i think it would just be Canadian citizens for that charge) and i would assume the same would apply to any usa anon members doing the same regardless of their intentions thats how the law is worded and Canada has some of the strictest child pornography laws on the books in the sense that unlike in the usa for example manga from japan can get you charged even if they arent real children and even the depictions of people under the age of 18 having sex presented solely in the form of text constitutes child porno in Canada

again dont get me wrong i wish we could throw the total book at them but how the laws work are really set against this poor deceased girl getting any justice

..it took us only a few hours to identify the boys that assaulted Rehtaeh. This wasn’t some high-tech operation that involved extracting private messages from someone’s Facebook account. Dozens of e-mails were sent to us by kids and adults alike, most of whom had personal relationships with the rapists. Many recalled confessions made by these boys blatantly in public where they detailed the rape of an inebriated 15-year-old girl. Recent statements by police and prosecutors that there simply wasn’t enough evidence to make a single arrest should be viewed solely as an admission of incompetence on their part. This wasn’t “he said, she said.” He said he did it and he said it to everyone while showing them a photo of him doing it. Every officer that signed off on this “no evidence” conclusion should be guarding the entrance to a petting zoo for the remainder of their careers. We’re afraid to ask if anyone even bothered to check the EXIF data on the rape/child pornography being openly shared by hundreds of students throughout your community. Read more: www.mommyish.com...

sadly thanks to anon they may have just torpedoed even the child porno charge on the case as by illegaly gathering the evidence it will most likely be treated as "fruit of the poisonous tree" and be inadmissible in court or at least any defense attorney worth his salt will file a motion to suppress due to them being illegal obtained
think the only way around this would be to petition Facebook to get it off of the main servers by serving them with a warrent but i am honestly unsure if that is an option(hoping it is) www.icclr.law.ubc.ca... pdf on the matter that expalins it but its in legal speak

im fine with that, let anon out them. they did something horrible, and need to get what they deserve... either through public humiliation (like they put the girl through) or go to jail for rape or both.

Uh, no. Try again. Fail.

Care to share the one poster who told the truth? Oh, right, there were like over 9,000. Her instagram photos are all over the webs, no one needs to link them. Her parents left them, and the account, up. Just google.
