I found the main OP fascinating, and it resonates (no pun intended) with something I keep meaning to put on here regarding the manner & mechanism of
However, your bigoted & disgustingly insensitive comments about some people's most treasured beliefs, have quite honestly ruined the whole thing. I
believe in God. I do not believe that Genesis is supposed to be taken as a literal statement of fact. The nature of the Creationist agenda & the
type of comments made by sheltered and ignorant persons professing faith in God does not make YHWH a 'douche'.
If anything, you have simply revealed that you personally are a douche, by making an intellectually dishonest broad-brushstroke criticism - of a deep
spiritual tradition with all manner of historical & present forms, which has given comfort and inspiration to all manner of people, and through which
all manner of people have been blessed as the result of the charitable actions of those who keep faith.
Modern secular humanism/ 'scientific' atheism will not sort out the world's problems, and whilst better, neither will a simple Taoist philosophy -
we are a complex race besieged by dark powers, with severe material & spiritual problems.
Taoism is fine for those who are already blessed with a strength of mind, who are not overwhelmed by circumstances of grief beyond their own control -
but it is useless for those who are in the grip of demons, or for those who for whatever of a million reasons need the comforting presence of Heaven
in times of trial, or the assurance of everlasting peace in their final days. Taoism is an honorable path in many ways, and concurs generally with
the proper ethical Way, but it is not a solution for all that ails us in this broken world - for some it is an impossibly abstract idea.
You'll note that I have the Chinese symbol for the Tao in my avatar. However, I am a Christian.
I believe the Tao (literal - the Way) is in fact personal in nature, that He is the Totality (within a certainty) of Pure Form; the Light revealing
Truth & Wisdom; the full expression of Being, alive forevermore & since the Ancient of Days. I believe He was manifest on Earth 2000 years ago to the
Hebrew children (esp. the simple & unlearned) as the the Son of Man, Yeshua, the Messiah/Christ.
The Tao/ Way, the Truth, and the Life.
Some situations we may face are impossible for a man to gauge, let alone resolve. The despised, the weak & the broken tend to find strength in
Christ, for it was primarily to such that are 'poor in spirit' that He came... ''The healthy do not need a physician'' were just a few of the
immortal words he spoke.
The beautiful, powerful & established folk amongst us can also find strength in Him - but it is harder for them to give up the reigns on their lives,
for Christ has demanded that they bless others with their abundance, even (not always, but often) becoming fiscally poor in the service of others. He
demands we be willing to sacrifice our own plans, our own time & energies, in the service of others - or that we become intellectual 'fools' instead
of massaging our egos with high-minded complexities of philosophy. All for the sake of Him & the Kingdom of Heaven - for others, and not for
It is prideful to assume that we as human creatures can comprehend the totality of our position within this universe. Only one teacher ever came with
a truth so bold as to say that He is God, and no other above or beside Him. It breaks our prideful ego to submit to the authority of God, to ask
forgiveness for errors & petition for guidance, much-needed, if we are to overcome the spiritual obstacles we cannot see...
When we come before Him in humility, we are indwelled with Truth & Life in their highest possible expressions, we are shown 'The Way', and thus are
saved from the darkness of our exasperating and mysterious human condition - the delusion in which we pretend at self-mastery, whilst blinding
ourselves & binding ourselves to the abject failings of humanity down the ages...
It is a wise thing to say: ''There but for the grace of God go I.''
How else might it have been in our individual lives? What kind of grace was apportioned to us? Would the cold vacuum of the impersonal Tao of
Eastern thought be a comfort to a grieving mother, or would it rather foster despair & despondency? As a soldier going over top of the trenches would
you find comfort in the idea of non-existence should a bullet strike you squarely? Why fight at all, if it doesn't matter, if all is illusory, if
there is no real love, no real joy, no wondrous Power to receive you at the end of the road?
God is personal, is loving, and has variably expressed His presence in clear ways, revealing Himself fully in the humblest way - taking our form,
sharing our pain, and dying for us, should we care to look & see what that actually means. He is the I AM, the Alpha & Omega - infinite, infinitely
capable of personal care.
