All the US military is EMP harden.

Yes we have a lot stockpiled but how much would we be able to launch if attacked first (pre-emptive first strike) since most of that stockpile is probably warehoused somewhere and not launch ready?

It is just a theory that warrants preparation to defend against but do you really think that if the Russians were involved in a plan with the Chinese to urge North Korea to launch what they think is a crippling attack where they wont be retaliated against (said retaliation being part of the "plan") and that the Rus/Chin coalition would then counterattack a weakened US that they would actually tell us that?

I don't think your analogy fits because in Chess, each opponent has the same weapons / tools. It is purely a game of strategy between two otherwise equal opponents. This is not the case in reality.

The United States has such a vast array of combat weapons and tools it can bring to the table - Much more than any other country in the world.

Secondly, you haven't thought about logistics. Sure, the Chinese and Russian's could launch a nuclear strike against the United States - but rest assured they would suffer the same fate. That option is all but off the table here. So - how does the Chinese and Russians arm, feed, equip, transport and maintain a military strength equal or larger than the United States? The Russians already lost that battle once, and their still fragile economic development can't sustain that type of committment.

The Chinese have a rather large economy, but it is tantamount to a fat panda bear sitting on a table with 4 skinny legs. It is well known that Chinese GDP growth is largely supported by their development sector. IE., "The Ghost Cities". Not that anyone can afford to live in these massive, empty cities...but the Chinese keep building them.

The point here is that any war except a Nuclear War is not decided or won in the short term. And I've already shown you that Nuclear War is very, very very unlikely. Neither the Chinese or Russians have a robust enough economy to support a large scale invasion / war scenario. The only country who can - is the United States, thanks to it's extremely robust Military - Industrial Complex.

The majority of NATO is actually impotent and would be a walk in the park for Russia to over come.
Some in NATO wouldn't side with the US against Russia anyway.

The Dutch..they don't even have tanks anymore. A tiny air force.

The Germans..they are dependent on Russian gas/oil. They wouldn't do a thing.

The French..they've got Nukes too..they'd probably strike a deal with Russia.

The Greeks..biggest tank force in Europe actually..one of the biggest airforces too...but they wouldn't go to war against Russia.

The Turks..big air force, tank fleet etc. But trade between Turkey and Russia is over 100 billion dollars now. Turkey going to war against Russia means the Turkish economy dies a painful death. Especially with their massive budget deficits and trade inbalances.

The Italians..not even worth mentioning.

The Spaniards...again, not worth mentioning.

About the only country in NATO which is guaranteed to go to war with the USA, is the UK. Simply because they are the leaders in the tiny Anglo-American sphere which comprises them as well as Canada, Australia and NZ.

And even the UK it self is less then impressive.
A few tens of thousands of soldiers on combat deployment is all they can actually support in their current state.
Their navy has shrunk significantly.
Their only real deterrence now is their nuclear arsenal.



But anyway, the scenario the OP has posted is ridiculous. It is simply following along the lines of Hollywood movies, such as the recently released Red Dawn.

In this day and age you do not need to occupy a country with soldiers to conquer them.
If you think China and Russia are going to send millions of troops to occupy the USA, when they them selves are surrounded by countries which aren't too friendly to them...you are all nuts.


There wont even be a war over this North Korean missile crisis. Not this time at least anyway.

That's why it's called the "Nuclear Triad". One third of our nuclear weapons are sub launched, one third are ICBMs, and one third are air launched/dropped (it's not that neat and even, but for the purposes of discussion it will be). That means that even if we're hit first, two thirds of our nuclear force could launch. Even the subs in port (which still keep crews on them) could hit a target almost anywhere in the world from port. So there would still be a massive retaliation as soon as the launch was confirmed, which would take a couple of minutes.

Yes, they test it. They have a special chamber that they can put aircraft into that hits them with electromagnetic energy. All aircraft have to go through testing to see how much they can stand up to.

Our missiles, and nuclear systems are on a completely separate network that can't be accessed from just anywhere. That prevents someone from trying to get in and give random orders.

A number of military bases have started building solar power into the base, as well as having huge generators in place to provide power to necessary areas (control tower, MOC, etc.)

I am so sick of everyone thinking an EMP weapon is some uber new thing. Every nuclear detonation causes an EMP and that is why everything in our military is hardened against it and has been since the 60s. EVERYTHING, including communications. Satellites,Planes, Tanks and Hummers down to the radio. Our whole country has a bellow ground back up system that is kind of secret but made just for nuclear war.

There are nuclear weapons that are designed to maximize the EMP effect. Just because military hardware has been hardened against it doesn't mean that such hardening will be sufficient. However, I doubt that North Korea has this design.

Many are unable to explain why the US continues to press ahead with provocative military drills on the Korean peninsula, even while the threat of nuclear war reaches its highest level in years. Military operation "Foal Eagle", which also involves some 200,000 South Korean troops isn't scheduled to end until April 30. The operation includes practice drills said to be intended for the occupation of North Korea.


Last Sunday Pyongyang said that negotiation is impossible as long as they believe the threat of invasion appears imminent. But despite the obstacle to peace the two-month-long war games are posing, there has been no indication from Washington the combat exercises will be halted.

In recent weeks the Obama administration has vastly amplified its armed presence in East Asia, putting North Koreans on high alert. The buildup, which has included nuclear bombers and submarines, has taken place even though the US army is already stationed throughout the region, with nearly 40,000 troops in South Korea alone.

Washington also continues to push its regional allies to boost their war spending. Japan is set to increase its defense budget for the first time in 11 years, while Seoul has just announced a plan to spend $200 million to increase forces on the northern frontier.

While North Korea has not launched a missile test, as many expected, it continues to respond aggressively to the military buildup and the hardline stance of South Korea's conservative government. Many believe diplomacy could remain stalled until the US-South Korean joint force ends its military drills.

Supposedly (see prev post) the DPRK is working on the EMP specific nuclear devices (that max the effect) with the help of the Russians (not the Chinese).
