Have you managed to read up on Mandela and the 'spear of the nation' yet ?
Thanks for your contribution and your propaganda key points

No, I'm too busy trying to find out when Jimmy and maggie used to play charades round the Xmas turkey for 11 years.

I wonder if that included the morally righteous 80s.

ETA

And can you point out where I offer an opinion on Nelson Mandela?

Rubbish? Rubbish????????

I assume it was rubbish for some in the glorious 80s when the government and the police covered up the Hillsbourgh disaster? Funny how in this morally decadent present, the truth was finally told.

Anyway, back to Nelson, can you answer my previous question? Please.

Ooooh Helen - you are a one. Never before have I seen an opening poster on ATS draw their own thread to a close by telling everyone who disagrees with the op to get off the thread. So much for quality open debate huh?

can you please stay on topic. I am assuming that you do not see the disrespect in dancing on somones grave.

As stated the reason that Britain is in terminal decline is that there is a rise in nastiness in the general population typified by the small minded bigots who want to celebrate death.

The rest of us are not like this. Thank God.

You're wrong Helen - they're not celebrating death - they're celebrating the end of an era - from a period when the Tories gained their mantle as 'the nasty party'.

No Helen - Thatcher's policies lived on long after her term in office, Now that she has passed I for one am relieved that at long last there is quality debate regarding her legacy. I heard one BBC World Service correspondent admit that she had not realised how divisive Thatcher and her policies had been until the woman died.

How old were you in 1979 when Thatcher came to power Helen? This is an important factor in understanding your viewpoint.

Did you see Question Time the other night? Did you hear the female journalist state that at the time Thatcher was in power France (with a socialist government) achieved exactly the same in terms of reducing inflation and transforming its economy without the cruelty inflicted by Thatcher's government? It is the people subjected to that cruelty, and their children, who are celebrating the end of an era.

Why? Your thread isn't about politics? (Unless its one of your own posts). You have to understand that, in my view, it is far worse for people to become hypocrites and sing only the praises of any individual simply because they have died.

What you propose is the suppression of free speech and free expression (for the sake of good manners) - freedoms that are valued (rightly so) by the people of this country. Your views equate to oppression and are more suited to a totalitarian state than a supposed democracy where ALL views are valued.

Extrapolate your perspective and apply it to the likes of Saddam Hussein, Osama Bin Laden, Colonel Gadaffi etc etc.....does the same approach of 'respect the dead' to the exclusion of all other considerations apply to these people too? Are they deserving of respect - I don't think so.

Now, could you please let me know how old you were when Thatcher came to power? I'm reckoning you were at most 10 years old. And that would explain why you are asking the wrong question. You should not be asking 'how could people react in such a disturbing manner,' but rather, you should be asking 'what is it that disturbed these people so much to have them react in this way?

But I don't really think you're particularly interested in the reality.
