I've been getting more an more frustrated with youtube for the last few months. After a rough morning of clips not loading (even 30 seconds clips!) I finally got the inspiration to search elsewhere for videos.

I wanted to learn about how Muslims slaughter their animals for food - a term called halal. Youtube has a 14 minute clip on halal, but it just wouldn't load. I did a search for the same video in the hope that it was posted elsewhere. I found it on Dailymotion. This NON-youtube clip couldn't have run any smoother.

Now, I don't know if youtube is deliberately slowing down their stream rate, or if it's just a matter of too many people on that site at one time. But, I've had enough. Hopefully, more and more people will look and post clips elsewhere because just the thought of going to youtube is now accompanied by a sense of dread.

This is how bad youtube has gotten. I kept the youtube clip loading while I did the google search for that clip elsewhere. I went for two smokes. Watched the clip on the Dailymotion site. Came here to start this thread and write what I have written so far, and this is how much of the youtube clip loaded up:

Here is the clip on halal if anyone is interested.

Why do Muslims eat halal

It's your internet connection. That or try updating your flash player or don't run other programs/downloads in the background. I don't have issues with YT unless my internet is acting up.

Edit: Didn't see the bit about running another video. Maybe you're on to something

I've been having the same problem with youtube, the last few days it has been painfull to try to watch anything on my laptop.

My internet connection is fine. My resource meter goes off the roof but the only hungry apps are the flash player and firefox.

My ipad 1st gen can play these files withou any worry. I can only guess that I've got something nasty lurking in my laptop.

No issues here using Firefox. I noticed that YT now only loads so far ahead, though. I would guess that someone who starts a video, walks off to get a coffee while the entire vid loads, then comes back to decide they are done after the first 20 seconds is wasting bandwidth, and only loading a certain buffer alleviates much of the unintentional bandwidth hogging. Just my 2cents.

No exaggeration, I had no problem whatsoever with the Dailymotion clip.

Then explain why I can watch streaming tv shows or watch clips from daily motion with no problem, but a 30 second clip on youtube hangs up?

The issue is not down to you but the fact you are served a cached video via a content disribution network.ISPs throttle these CDNs,that is why You Tube videos buffer and the rest of the internet will be fine.
Block the IP of the CDNs and you will get served your video directly from You Tube and it will load fine.
The link I posted above explains how to do this.

I just loaded chrome to see what would happen. Called up a 7 minute clip on youtube and it hung up at 1:13. So, the problem isn't with Firefox, which took less than 3 minutes to download Chrome.

The problem is content related, nothing more nothing less.It is deliberate and not a glitch.

Well done Glen.
That article addresses a problem that has been around a long time.
You beat me to the punch. And the article says it better than I could have.

I have been noticing the same thing too. There have been alot of hacks and virus lately. It seems like virus protection and java updates are very often. but i really don't know what i'm talking about on this subject.

I recently asked a similar question to yours.
Why do Christians eat halal foods even though they know better?

Would adding these ip's to the host file as 127.0.0.1 also work?
