Well, if it turns out to be identical to the 1918 spanish flu, or a much-worse mutated strain, then you can pretty much kiss your life good-bye.

We have pretty much been overdue for a catastrophic flu pandemic. Even scientists know this. There are strains of viruses that have become anti-biotic resistant, probably because we have been overusing antibiotics.

Thats 16 cases bad enough to come to public attention. How many others just stayed home and recovered eventually?

The actual number is probably much higher. The government won't release the actual figures to avoid mass panic.

Docs are really worried about it now. If somebody who lives in or has been to Shanghai contracts fever and displays bird flu-like symptoms, they will definitely report it.
