If North Koreans could blog on ATS right now, what would they say?

I've watched a few documentaries on North Korea, which does seem like a fascinating country.

The discourse about North Koreans can range from dismissiveness to open-minded concern.
In some cases there were moments in a war museum where Americans first heard of their own historic atrocities that were wiped from their own "education".
However, there's always a sense that the land and the people are a kind of relic, like some lost tribe frozen in time from a once mighty Marxist empire.

One usually starts by offering flowers and bowing to a statue of the Dear Leader.
Then, most of the sights are the same across the documentaries.
An underground railway station, a friendship museum, traditional theatrics from children, a dam, and the border post with South Korea.

Yet, one never hears from the ordinary people.
Tourists always have minders.

I sometimes wonder about the old South Africa of my youth, and what we would have blogged if the Internet existed and was allowed before 1994.
That's not a direct comparison between countries and systems by any means, and the countries were very different, apart from the fact that we were also made to believe we were normal, while much of the world thought we were crazy.

Anyway, I'd love to hear thoughts on what the rest of the world thinks North Koreans might say here.

Serious thoughts are welcome, and so is some humor and sarcasm (just please do make the difference clear, perhaps with an emoticon).

Honest? If they could blog without fear of reprisal I am pretty sure they'd say "Help. Send food. Maybe bring an army or four to at least open enough of the border for us to get out?"

Probably "나는이 포럼에 아무것도 이해하지 않습니다.".

I've been on the Internet for one day and now I must choose between the two nice things?
This machine is very conflicting.

On a more serious note, they might post about starvation and concentration camps, and chemical warfare experiments.

Perhaps some of these things will be so shocking that the world would first have difficulty in believing them.

My first guess would be that they would probably ask us why we want to destroy them. As I am sure they are being told that we are out to destroy their home and their freedom etc. Whether or not we believe they are being ruled unjustly etc, doesn't necessarily mean they feel that way. As far as they are probably concerned their living better then we are. I mean this is all hypothetical of course, but I am sure they are very oppressed. When you see them rally I highly doubt they are rallying because they really hate America and Americans. They are rallying because they are being told we are evil.

Probably they would post that their great leader is going to destroy the imperialist USA.

Some people here have no idea about how brainwashed DPRK population really is.

I do hope the Korean translation for that falls within the T&C, or the first North Korean post might be a complaint.

Apparently they have some of the best snitches in the world.

Both translations are perfectly innocuous however.

They would actually have some questions rather than statements.
So, this starving nation of 90 percent straw hut villages is challenging the worlds most cruel military machine??

I grew up in GDR and whatever you hear about that nowadays mostly says: Horrible, no freedom at all, nobody was allowed to leave their own country, dictatorship, spies everywhere etc. BUT still I don't think anyone of us would have wanted foreign military to start a war or send even a single bomb our way because those NEVER hit anywhere else but places where innocent people live.
Just my two cents. War, an attack, a "preemtive" strike - whatever you wanna call it - is never, never, never a good idea. It's always the normal people who suffer, not the government.
So people in North Korea are probably very scared right now, especially kids who listen to their teachers talk about the "bad americans" in school. I was taught being afraid of capitalists when I was a kid, you can imagine my surprise finding out later they are people just like everyone else.

I'm ignorant, so bear with me. All those well lit cities, surrounding the blacked out North Korea, do they have nuclear energy? North Korea is disallowed nuclear energy, correct?

They could be using old fashion, what?, gas and oil driven power stations. Or they could be using wind or solar. I mean at least there could be some light in the dark, right?

So, is this darkness a sign that the Beloved Leader is cheap? Or, is this a ploy of some kind?

I wasn't saying they live in the lap of luxury. I was actually just pointing out that as oppressed as they are by their government they probably think they are living in the lap of luxury. As far as they know and are taught the rest of the world is way worse off then they are. I mean obviously i don't live there so I can't speak for it from personal experience, but I highly doubt that they realize just how cruel their government is. I would like to think if they did they would stand up to do something about it.

I guess the Beloved leader didn't want to make the same mistake that China and Russia did and let their people see what life was like elsewhere.

Who said that? I hope you don't think it was me?

By the looks of the documentaries I think that any country who wants to take North Korea on would be wrong to think they are pushovers.

They had a military first policy, which means that the funding of their military and weapons in no way reflects the general state of the population.

Most importantly, the people shown actually believe what they are saying.
They are not faking or performing for tourists in the documentaries.
They totally believe that the Americans hate them and are poised to wipe them out, and they will fight them to the last breath.

I've always liked conspiracy theory because it means some group is ultimately in control and it won't allow an actual nuclear war.
Even the Illuminati have to survive somewhere on a living earth.

If not, and World War III actually happens, SA will probably side with China.
Now that's a scary thought, because who will China side with?
In that case I'm deserting.
