This is a fun thread

If this should be in the music thread please feel free to move it mods.

The Idea is what was the first single (song for the younger ones) that you paid for with your own money ?

And if you could go back and change it which would you choose today ?

I still remember cycling to Woolworth's (you Brits will remember that) every Saturday for 4 weeks only to be told they were sold out, and cycling home with my head hung low, and tears in my eyes.

To my eternal shame

My first hard earned paper round money went on this

If only I could go back to young Cody and tell him to wait and buy this

This might be interesting

Cody

It was this one:

I was a little kid and saved up my allowance to buy it. I listened to it over and over- must have driven my mother insane!

It was this song. Dream on, by Aerosmith.
and I don't think I would change it really. I still love the song.
Price was 89 cents for the 45. I forget what was on Side B.

Blondie: The Tide is High. I'm sure it was black market, everything was in Saudi. I paid 3 riyals for it (about a $1 back then) on cassette. That same day, I spent about 17 more riyals on other tapes, but that was the first. Others included Def Leppard and Iron Maiden.

I"m willing to bet you knew all the moves to "Greased Lightning" and sang along with "Sandra Dee". The question is- did you sing in costume?

You may need to explain cassette to our younger members

It looked like this

We used to sit around the radio pressing record and pause of a Sunday lunch trying to record the top 40.
I still have the tapes somewhere.
Man that was family time

The first song and CD I purchased was Does This Look Infected? by Sum 41. I remember my mom thought this CD was so vulgar because of the cover. But I thought it was awesome. As a kid I did have Pokemon CD's. But my real CD is Sum 41.

Mine would be Alice cooper.. I don't know why I liked this song so much then , I think I had pity with ugly looking men in prison singing ballads..
