Yes, we do: because it means we have made a profitable business out of imprisoning our own modern Americans for mostly non-violent offenses. Not that we were literally founded on the genes of violent offenders and the prostitutes that were sent there to keep them from rowing back.

Bitcoins are a bubble I am afraid but represent a beta test into the concept of cyber-currency. Ultimately "states" will want to control the issuance and supply of said genre of money however....but they will have to figure out a way to not be defacto fiat - perhaps a digital currency backed notionally by a basket of commodities (including water and energy values).

Pretty much all of the major British colonies were sent prisoners. The USA is no exclusion.

Did you know that if it weren't for American interference in Australia, we would be a powerful nation? For example: The CIA were instrumental in the removal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam. The USA also made sure that Australia couldn't get Nuclear Weapons.

The truth is, we would have been a powerful state, so long as the USA never intervened. Now with the economy turning to the Pacific, we have the USA begging us to help them, and give them ample opportunity to have a say in our, and Asian Pacific affairs. I guarantee that if Australia dropped a lot of the cooperation we share currently, we will grow more prosperous and powerful as a nation.

Further, the USA never saved the world in WW2. You's entered half way through the war, when the enemies were weakened. You's barely lifted your fingers in the Pacific (because your soldiers were so undertrained)...

Every single ally helped "save the world," not just the USA.

Did you know that the USA was the main location of which Britain sent her convicts before Australia was founded? I bet you didn't. The truth is, the USA and Australia were both founded as colonies. They were both sent convicts.

Furthermore, the majority of the Australian population are not descendants of criminals/convicts, but rather, immigrants from Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, Europe etc.

The US was just as much a "prison state" as Australia was. It means literally nothing.

Beyond that - as an American - I find the OP discouraging. I am not a boomer, and I enjoyed a few good working years in the 90's before the rug was yanked out under my feet as well.

Strong Tariff's on our closest allies is bad politics, and if there are consequences, we will all have to pay them. But ultimately - we (all of us) are going to have to figure out a better way of running a world than what we have done so far, because there are too many people living in the fall-out of our (the worlds leading economies) silly economic and political games.

We owe it to each other to do better than this. We have to decide to grow up as a species somehow. I have no idea how we are going to do it, but I'm a father, and I have to believe we can.

And I was born in Parramatta Australia. I have westie blood. I have a Pommy/Aussie Grandfather and Irish Grandmother . Other side is English blood Aussie Grandfather with Aussie Grandmother that has a touch of Spanish. It makes for a pretty good looking fella but I am Australian. I was born in Australia. Australia is a multicultural nation. We are one but we are many. More Chinese come to live in Australia than people from any other nation.

And I love China because it has smashed America in the face. And its only getting started. I see America as a failed superpower that took advantage of its situation and wasted its power on rubbish. I have no genuine sympathy for America.

I guess I am just gloating. I have been waiting for this time for so long. I remember how excited I was when America got its humiliating Credit Downgrade. That was the first visable crack in the Empire. You guys are really crumbling now. Its one problem to the next. Just gets worse and worse for America. Its a beautiful thing.

They are beginning to show the same demographic problems that caused Japan's economic collapse, their efforts to to reform their economy have stagnated over the last 10 years, their government has gotten more corrupt than ever, and the amount of civil unrest has drastically increased over the last 4 or 5 years in China. Not to mention the fact the several people in their government who have admitted that they lie about their economic growth statistics, I learned that from a casual perusal of the wikileaks cables. Hell, in the last dozen years their growth rate has fallen from 12% down to 8%. Yeah, China's really scary.
