The media and electronics industries have mastered the home theater. We have sharp HD television and movies, crystal clear surround sound, and can access whatever we want to watch or listen to in a moment’s notice with the help of the internet. What our home entertainment setups still don’t have, though, is smell-o-vision. Thanks to a Japanese team of researchers, we might soon be able to smell those 11 secret herbs and spices in that Kentucky Fried Chicken ad.

Cool, i definitely want one of these! Hope they work a little better than the current 3DTVs! Obviously i'm thinking of the applications way beyond advertisements.

Brings a whole new definition to party political broadcasts, I wonder if we will be able to smell the bull crap coming out there mouths? LoL

Oh My God.

Sorry for the Cliché internet comment, but this sounds like the death of many people when advertisements for fast food might be able to use this to market their product...

I know my mouth waters when i smell some good food being cooked near by, this could be extremely unfair!

and also how far could it go, do you want to watch "worlds worst jobs" with smell of vision? i dont!

could make for some extremely disturbing channel flicking!

Scary…

More «strange and unknown substances» are released to our already polluted air under the name of “entertainment enhancements” to gain more control on the “systematically brain washing” process.

This is great.
I mean in my head it sounds good, but realistically, how is this going to be possible. The TV is generally far away. I like the idea, I just don't see how they are going to pull it off.

....am I the only one.

anywhoo, I really like this idea. I'm going to have to break my old incense collection out, I don't want my gf smelling all of the Brazilian women that will be in my living room

im jk for the sensitive ats'ers.

What i'm wondering is once you have the smell associated with the image on screen, how do you then dissipate said smell and substitute another in line with the video moving forward?

Will it accomplish the feat of "smellovision" by the use of odor cartridges that require refills?
