The REAL ID Act is a federal law that was introduced by Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI) who claimed it was an essential terror-fighting tool. It never had a Senate hearing. Instead, it was whisked through Congress in May 2005 on the coattails of "must pass" emergency supplemental legislation providing funds for the war in Iraq and tsunami relief. If implemented, it will lay the groundwork for a de facto national ID card which could, step by step, turn us into a "show me your papers" society.

This is a spin-off of homeland security.....I don't want to be THAT secure.
Of course! None of this is for our security, it is to tie us up in continual knots and invade our privacy, and for data mining. If they wanted to stop illegals coming over the porous border they would do it. As always, the citizens have to suffer.
Actually, it's a spin off of the anti-immigrant sentiment of the GOP. It's a GOP sponsored law that was pushed off on Homeland Security as they were tasked with enforcement.
and your good ole Democrat Party will go along with it........

Yet they want to give some undocumented illegals drivers licenses? This madness has to stop! Is this what Ohio's governor Kasich is trying to implement?
And I'm pretty sure they won't meet the requirements we will be forced to meet. There's no way they can possibly do it.

It's real funny how the majority here complain about tougher requirements to get DLs, mostly because these are the same people who complain about NOT having voter ID laws in place to keep the "undesirable illegals" from voting. I would think you would all be thrilled by this, since it will be that much harder to get a fake. But I hey, I understand, conservatives are only conservative until it's a pain in the @$$ for them.
For many years professionals within the criminal justice system have acted upon the belief that traveling by motor vehicle upon the roadway was a privilege that was gained by a citizen only after approval by their respective state governments in the form of a permit or drivers license.
Legislators, police officers, and court officials are being made aware that there are court decisions disproving the opinion that traveling is a privilege that requires government approval.
"Even the legislature has no power to deny to a citizen the right to travel upon the highway and transport his property in the ordinary course of his business or pleasure, though this right may be regulated in accordance with the public interest and convenience." Chicago Motor Coach v. Chicago, 169 NE 22.
("Regulated" here means traffic safety enforcement: stop lights, signs, etc.)
"The right of the citizen to travel upon the public highways and to transport his property thereon, either by carriage or by automobile, is not a mere privilege which a city may prohibit at will, but a common right which he has under the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." Thompson v. Smith, 154 SE 179.

If you already have a Drivers License, they should find a way to make this much
easier for the American people.
If you have a Drivers License and a Passport, then you should be able to get a
REAL ID the same day.
Throw out the current procedure and just start all over.

So illegal aliens don't currently have drivers license?
