I was talking about our ROE in Iraq and Afghanistan where even if the enemy has us in his sights we cant do nothing until its to late, but I wouldnt expect someone that has never risked anything to understand what it feels like to have a RPG pointed at you and not allowed to stop it or watch a RKG3 be thrown killing a brother knowing I could have stopped it/ I should have stopped it.

My agenda? I was only replying to that part of the post, not critizising your opinion. Just bringing things back into the main topic here, NK. The quoted part talked about how restrictive the ROE is, and I said that it could be a good thing, and prevent some major bloodshed.

Didn't mean to offend you. If you've seen your brother being blown up, and felt like you could do nothing due to the ROE, I'm sorry. Maybe the ROE does restrict what the military can do, but you need to look at the big picture. For the ground troops it might seem like everything should be allowed, but perhaps strategically things are different. I wouldn't go critizising any law made by the Government, since its very likely that they did it in the best interest for the country. Its difficult to tell when you don't have all the information they do, and you've never studied what they've studied. Its easy to go and say that politicians are all lazy, that they don't care, or understand, and that they lie all the time. But I wouldn't go saying those things, because I've never been there. I haven't studied military strategies. Pretty sure Wikileaks published a video, something like "collateral damage", which might be the exact reason why things like ROE are implemented.

No body hates seeing innocent people killed more then me specially children, I can honestly tell you i dont think I could shoot through a child that was being used as a shield and that was acceptable under our ROE, thank god I was never put in that position. All im saying is that the poloticians should have served in the Armed Forces or at least be attached to a combat unit for a couple weeks so they can understand what the troops have to deal with and the fact they have to make choices in a split second. Most people think war is like by what they see in movies, thats about the same as trying to learn Marine Biology by watching Spongebob.

Also I apologise for losing my cool. After hearing that a Katelyn Norman passed away I was and still am filled with frustration and pain, and I kind of vented a little on you.

But do politicians really need to be in the troops? Is that really the kind of insight they need? Maybe it is, I've never been in the military, and have no experience with any of this. I just think that everybody blames the politicians, when its quite possible that they're doing their best. Strategy is seeing the big picture. Troops on the ground are only a very small part of the whole situation. I thought movies showed mainly the front lines anyway... Not all the details going on far away in some control room. There is a lot to consider, all the relationships between countries, what is "legal", and what is crossing the line etc. No need to apolegise for anything, hope I haven't offended you.

No, we'd take the first hit.

In Iraq, it was different. We pretty much had the green light from the international community and the UN Security Council. We do NOT have the green light here, from Russia or China. A preemptive strike here is both unnecessary, and political suicide.

So with everything going on in Korea and being on the edge of war, what's happening in Iran?? All the sudden ALL the attention in on them.
Are the Quds forced here yet? Are both NK and Iran in some kind of agreement to keep us occupied in NK while Iran (or Russia, China) come from behind? I truly believe something will happen on US Soil and some kind of surprise attack is coming....maybe being paranoid...

I just heard from someone in Japan that he saw lots of planes and choppers passing over on Nagoya. He said it looks like cargo planes about 20 all, I wonder if this is all related to this Korea situation and that some troops movements is already being implemented.

No worries, the "boy" doesn't stand a chance against the most advanced war machine in history. The problem I can see if there will be a "mistake", some kind of "error", which could ignite the situation. What is this boy is just a puppet and carrying out somebody else's orders.

The Americans are too sure of themselves as if they know everything.

I for one think that actual action in Korea is sometime away.

However a small insignificant player has threatened the most powerful and dominant player, and got away with it.

Why US is not taking action to remove this nuclear threat. Why only words and no action. Not sure if this increases US prestige.

There are two answers...Russia, and China.

We cannot make a first strike here (and Un knows it)...without involving them in the conflict, as they have certain treaties with NK. However, if we responded to a NK attack, it's a bit different (but still doesn't nullify those treaties). This is a MUCH different situation than Iraq or Afghanistan, which didn't have other nuclear heavy hitter bed-buddies.

It's like babysitting your boss' kids...do you spank them and get fired? Or come up with some other solution....

Man theres a ghost that will kill you quick.I doubt China will move to save them again,thus declaring war against us and totally abrogating our debt to them completely. The Koreans will unite one way or another.We all want to see the southern model take control because if the north tries we all loose. But we will stop them.

I'd consider your words....except I heard the "experts" of the world at the time saying the same thing about Saddam Hussein in July and the start of August, 1990. Couldn't happen.. He'd never do it... He's not totally INSANE right? They all said this. Positively, 100% certain that the massive buildup of forces on the Kuwait border was just another game of hardball as they'd played before ..over Kuwait's slant drilling under the border and into Iraqi oil fields (or they claimed then)

Then the whole world changed forever ...whether we all realized it that moment or not ....when he rolled his army right over the border and proceeded to rape the daylights out of Kuwait as a nation ...and quite literally, a good number of it's citizens.

Wrabbits thread is showing the FPCON status but there are others. They all fall under the heading of LERTCON :

What I can't figure out is why isn't there a master Government website telling you detailed information on the status of each one of these? Shouldn't this be something the Government is willing to keep it's citizens apprised of?

The only one I can find is from a DOD webpage that has an icon of an Elevated "yellow" threat in the top right corner. This seems to be the same as the Homeland Security Advisory System. www.defense.gov...

There is also this for Defcon status but this isn't a Government website and there is no way to tell how and when they update this status which is currently at 4. defconwarningsystem.com... They have a neat desktop gadget that displays the Defcon status that I now have on my desktop ( just in case)

Does anyone know of such a website that has all of these?
