Canada is defending its decision to pull out of a United Nations convention that fights the spread of droughts. It's the only country in the world outside the agreement.

The decision comes a month before a major scientific gathering hosted by the secretariat of the convention that would have forced Canada to confront scientific analysis on the effects of climate change.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government has been vilified an as outlier on climate change policy in past international meetings.

Harper said Thursday that Canada is withdrawing from the U.N. Convention to Combat Desertification because the program is too bureaucratic.

Canada's foreign minister calls it a "talkfest" that does a disservice to taxpayers.

Or is this move a protection reaction to protecting 1/3of the worlds fresh water?

With the amount of snow this year, Canada may have 1/2 soon.

UN has been holding this conference for almost 20 years. Talk talk talk. That is all the UN is good for. No action.

We have more freshwater lakes then the rest of the world combined. I think this was actually a smart move...if it was made to protect that resource.

The rest of the world wants our water. We're best served to protect that resource at all costs.

ETA: what does the UN talk about at these conferences exactly?

Harper just wants to push the KSXL down our throats.
Then once it breaks or is deliberately broken, he'll try to force us to buy his water.

If I was was the suspicious sort, I'd suggest looking into who holds the bank on water up in Canada and if they are tied into the KSXL as well.

I would not be surprised to find a link.

Canada sees the handwriting on the wall:

The UN will be wanting control of all of the world's fresh water. Have you people not being paying attention?
Strangely, they want to retain their rights over their own resources.
Can you image that!!!!!!

interesting, sorry if this maybe seen as off topic, but I wonder if it has something to do with so called water wars.
One gang after another gangs scam

The Grand Plan To Loot Canada's Water Resource Wealth...

"The Traitors Within"

For decades, political and business insiders with Canadian and British Columbian governments, had known that the water resources in the American southwest and Mexico were dwindling in the face of an increasing population. In the mid to late 1980's a small group of Canadian political insiders, linked to both the Kim Campbell Gang and the Gordon Campbell Gang ( but also linked to other political parties) saw the opportunity to earn massive profits for themselves from the export of Canada's fresh water and set about on a fraudulent and corrupt scheme to capture for themselves an illegal water export monopoly so they could line their pockets with revenues from the sale of Canadian public assets and gouge American consumers. In order to achieve their goals, these insiders created a sinister fraud that continues to influence Canadian politics and Canadian public attitudes towards bulk water exports. Well for one, bub, we are talking about water. The only thing a person should have to pay into for water, is the treatment of it, and the plumbing to the house. Clean air, clean water and the access to them are basic human rights. It's not like you can go too long with out either. Now picture some greedy arsed corporation saying, you can't have any clean water with out paying for it at the same price of gasoline. How long do you think that will fly? AN no, I'm not talking by the bottle I'm talking the stuff that comes out of your tap.

As a part of the community I live in, I pay as part of my rights to live in that community, a fee to ensure my water is clean. That fee covers the price of the chemicals and machinery + the wages of the folks that maintain it, which is much better than being taxed for it.

It's not a matter of going to the Big Bang Burger Chef and plopping down my money for a burger. (Really bad strawman on your part.)

Clean water, It's a basic human right, the same with clean air.

I really think you should consider the thought that the KSXL is to profit the owners of the KSXL, and no one else. Its also likely to endanger the waterways that feed into the Heartland of America where a large portion of the worlds food is grown.

Which is to say if the crop lands are poisoned, and the aquifers, who does -that- benefit?
Basically, by damaging American waters with the KSXL they would have a chance to profit in a huge way.

Is that their goal, who can say, but it's one likelihood.

When the world pollutes its water, this is Canada's fault?

When your water has been so polluted by junk, sewer, dead animals, dead people, this is Canada's fault?

Maybe after the world has ruined their own supply of water, Canada can just let these very same people in to ruin ours. Or better yet, these people can say how it is their right to have OUR water.

If you have a VERY strong stomach check it out yourself

Just like the oil, our country, our oil. Our country our water.

Look after your own, or purchase some of ours, if we want to sell any that is.

On second thought, nah, I think we will keep it thank you.

I am sure that has something to do with water, just not sure what at this moment.
