I've been constantly crying lateley, because I feel I am in a hole where all hope is lost. Logically, this isn't so, as I have my health (as far as I can tell) and I'm not a hair away from homelessness. Am not estranged from next of kin. See, where I live, somewhere....in FEMA Region 5, it's 8 weeks from June, but still in the 30's outside, and snowing. I feel cooped up, and lonely. All the rejection and disappointment from years ago, is my companion. This is really awfull.
Do you all think this is from the ongoing sucky weather? I am really tired of being cold. It permeates inside where you live, even with the heaters on. I feel like (actor Jack Nicholson's) 'wife' in the Stanley Hotel, in The Shining, and there's not even a scary guy after me. Nor a psychic guy rushing on his way to try and rescue.

Just wondering if it's "just me".

The past does not exist, only as a thought. The future does not exist, only as potential. Why would we ever worry, stress, and be afraid over that which does not exist? Any concern over anything non-existent is a distraction from the happiness and peace that can be felt here and now, in this present moment. Now is the only time that exists. Dont worry be happy. Iv been feelin it too just kick it out , Yes its the weather its all in your mind it aint real

Would you be happier or less depressed if someone smashed through your door with an axe and said..."Heeeeerre's Johnny"!...?

And why would you put that you live in FEMA region instead of the midwest or that it is 8 weeks until June (is that significant?) Sounds like too much time on ATS which can depress even a happy vegan hippie!

It is most likely you have SAD so you better believe the weather has something to do with it! Find a window and if the sun comes out (even if it is cold) bask in the sun as much as you can. Helps the brain release chemicals to make you happier.

Eat some soup it is filling and makes you warm on the inside. Also join a Gym and get out and exercise (finding a winter activity too) is also good for your brain.

These are all things I do to combat the cold. Or you can wallow in sadness and self pity until you go mad and sell your soul for one drink, and we all know what happens next...LOL but why would you want to do that?

Take care and buck up spring has started little camper...

Anyone can fall victim to the "winter depression". I get it every year, and I am a big fan of snow actually. Given the extremely long winter (at least here in Sweden) this year, even the most hardcore winter loving friends of mine has succumbed to the darker side of emotions and has begun to fall into a mild winter depression as of lately. Today is the second (or is it third?) day of spring, and the snow is falling heavy outside my window

I'm so sorry you are feeling down in the dumps. Sometimes, a lack of Vit D can really bring on strong feelings of depression. If you have any Vit D capsules, start taking one each day, plus opening all your blinds on windows to get maximum light exposure will help.

It sounds like you have a case of Cabin Fever. Try to force yourself to get out and walk for at least an hour..

Good luck in feeling renewed....

I put 8 weeks from June, because I think it should not be 30 degrees outside and snowing at this time. Maybe in the middle of January,....

When I get depressed and feel the walls closing in I either cook something simple/delicious or check out my plants for water/nutrients/pruning.....I know its cold out but if you have the chance I would plant some seeds and leave it in a window sill that gets a little light throughout day....or skip ahead and buy some herbs that have already been started(I see grocery stores selling more)...I have yet to meet someone who sticks there face in some fresh basil and not crack a smile.

Long-term depression can be caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. Although we don't really understand the mechanism of depression, there is evidence it's tied to the brain's receptors and levels of serotonin and dopamine. If it continues, you might want to discuss it with your doctor.

Now that's out of the way, I'll tell you what helps me. Exercise, exercise, exercise. Even just a brisk twenty minute walk can do wonders.

Eat healthy, avoiding sugary sweets and caffeine. Stimulants can make depression worse.

Meditation is important. Examine your feelings and be honest with yourself. What has you depressed? Have you lost family or friends? Changed circumstances in life, such as moving or a marriage? Even happy events are stressfull, and too much stress can lead to depression.

You need an outlet for your feelings. For me, this is writing. I write what I feel, and it's only for me. I tear up most of what I write, because I don't want others to read it and misunderstand. But the act of writing down my feelings and thoughts are cathartic. It's like draining the infection of a suppurating wound. You have to get the infection out before it can heal

There's also SADD. Season affective disorder, which has to do with how much sunlight you get. You can buy bulbs that mimic the suns rays for use during winter, they might help.

A good therapist, one who an teach you how to deal with stress and depression, can be a godsend.

Good luck, and if you ever want to talk, just message me.

Oddly, following all this very intriguing and mysterious news about -Syria- of all things, has really distracted me from -myself-, and then that thread about disconcerting goings on here in the US from DHS, I'll bet if some kind of social SHTF came suddenly down, everyone who was depressed would snap out of it mighty quick.
But -like- my scenario of the "scary guy" (Jack Nicholson) I guess it's no better to feel rev'd-up due to scary things.
You wrote a poem? I would like to hear it, as long as you are not one of Douglas Adams' 'Vogons' aliens...
(Their poetry is weaponized!)

I write poetry too, sometimes I put one of my poems on my FaceBook page.

I came up with this:
Miss understood, stood to lose; dealt a hand of adverse planets. At birth. And journeyed through the conscienceless. While unready, while less. Cloistered inward, this sister from wayward. And pondered. Through time. I try to see the sun rise, out my window, but I see through a glass darkly. But logically, I know it will rise. With a hand of dealt planets, of greenlight surprise. With me, far wise.

I used to be --unable-- to write poetry, until I made it come from my pain. Then it was easy.

Im on cloud 9. Hey I used to have depression, it can go. Believe me and when it does you feel great again, and capable of anything. See a specialist and discuss all of your feelings , symptons, your life experiences, any traumas youve had. Get the correct diagnosis, and then work on ways of improving, ie diet, excercise, new changes in your life, self-love, relaxation, maybe meds, maybe therapy.

Depression is common. You might have SAD, this is a condition that comes due to the light outside, and I think its also a weather condition. I mean the weather definately effects alot of peoples moods. So again find out about it.

I always get depressed in the winter months. Truth be told, I love the cold, so I don't know why I get that way. I don't feel cooped up because I love to walk in the cold. If anything, I totally dread the summer heat.

I have heard that there are certain lights you can buy to overcome the depression.
