Classic Reggae, Roots, Ska and Dub - It's a lot more than just Bob Marley

Hey

i'm a big lover of Jamaican music from the 60's and 70's in particular, and when you talk to others (non reggae-heads) about this Bob Marley always comes up.
Now thats no surprise, he left an amazing legacy and richly deserves his status... however i cant help thinking it sometimes gets in the way of folk exploring other artists from an incredible tradition (especially being from such a small island)... i'd like to share a few of my favourites, please do like wise folks!


The Mighty Upsetter, Lee Scratch Perry, simply the greatest in my opinion - pioneer and jester, prolific and brilliant which ever side of the mixing desk he was:





The Congos - their "heart of the Congos" album is one of the sweetest things i ever heard:



Eric Donaldson, maybe my favourite vocalist of all time



and then the classic riddims..foundation stones

like Satta



and Java (Impact All-Stars version)

Like yourself i was well into Jamaican music in the 60's and early 70's ( me being a skinhead lol)

Admiral Tibet, Berry Levington, Big Mountain Big Youth, Black Uhuru, Burning Spear, Bunny Wailer, Chaka Demus & Pliers, Culture, Dandy Livingstone, Gregory Issacs, Inner Circle, Jacob Miller, Jimmy Cliff, The Melodians, Peter Tosh, Pioneers, Steel Pulse, Third World, Toots, The Wailers (After Bobs Death). I guess ill end on that one. Thats what come to mind as i typed.

Well if you dont mind adding Super Cat,Nicodemus,admiral bailey,josey wales,anything that came out of KING JAMMY'S Studio,CREATION,OR KILL-A-MAN JARO.......lol i jnow its more Ragga than Reggae but that ragga have nothing to do with today's dancehall #ery
