I have 2 players, one players only AVI files and other plays MKV plus mp4 files etc but not AVI files.
I want a player that plays every file I can throw it at it and before the wife changes her mind!
Preferably on Amazon if possible.
Would like one that also plays plays Netfix, BBC Iplayer etc if possible.
Ones I have seen have bad reviews but would take any recommendations other members have and are using, also, need USB ports plus HDMI cable output as well.
Cost approx £100 + or -

Do a google for western digital media player, I LOVE mine.
It plays just about anything you care to throw at it.

Failing that why not get a second hand laptop with HDMI, and use VLC player.

The easiest thing to do would be to tell your wife you messed up and let her know you have a crappy media player and you don't know what to do about it, yet.

All these Media players are just Little PCs with a form of Linux Installed.

buy a 2nd hand pc with tv out. P4 or older dualcore. £50-80 max

If Windows xp is on it. Great.

Download and install Chrome and VLC player. Free.

If it has no operating system,

Download and Install ubuntu or any Linux. Free

Download and Install Chromium and VLC player. Free

Watch TV.

Easy.

couldnt agree more...VLC plays anything,I use an older single core pc and run it to my 55 inch lcd.have yet to find a format vlc doesnt play, even use a webcam to look outside, only using vlc......peace ya'll
have to add using a multi-core really a better idea if you want to watch blu-ray off drive....my single core sometimes stutters..otherwise only way to go...

Buy a ROKU.

Plays Netflix, Amazon, Crackle, Nasa. Full 1080p with HDMI out. You can alter it a bit to stream media over your home network or you can use a USB or external drive.

I have a ROKU, it's awesome.

Obviously you're in the UK, so you may need to find an alternate retailer..

Plays everything I throw at it. I think a lot of people are misunderstanding your question.

He's looking for a stand-alone streaming player, not a media player for his PC.

If you ARE looking for a new media player for your computer, nothing beats Media Player Classic with the K-Lite Codec pack.

Good luck!

I bought this player Asus Oplay Mini 7.1 Channel Audio Full HD Media Player and it plays all of the different formats like MKV , AVI , mp4 etc with excellent quality. I have hooked it up to a small 1TB hard drive I have and it plays from there as well as flash and SD drives. Great little box of tricks.
