If you aren't holding it, you don't own it.

I have already done my bank run, only money in the bank is what is needed to pay the bills. But is it safe to keep fiat currency? Perhaps it would be best to buy necessities - food, water and other items of that nature.

You can survive on "food, water and other items of that nature."

Eating paper bills will get boring after awhile.

Think of it this way...you are only buying ahead of time what you would eventually end up buying anyways, only it's cheaper right now.

Peace

Where are you going to store all that? most people live in apartments. Landlords inspect the apartments from time to time. If the apartment looks like a bunker you'll be out in no time.

And even if you own a house they can take it away from you by fining you $100/day for the junk in your yard or for planting a garden. Good luck with your standoff with the authorities, you will end up in a body bag and they will still get your property.

So the best bet is to have money or metals rather than supplies.

I can guarantee you that if the dollar collapses and the US goes under then most of us will be dead simply because gangs are better than individuals or neighborhood watches. Planning for a total collapse is useless. You can plan survival for a few weeks in case of a local disaster like Sandy until you get outside help. But total collapse... Unless you live in the country and have a fortress and a bunch of armed family members or friends, what's the point? Alone in a regular house or apartment you will only become some gang's superstore and still be dead after all the effort.

Nothing wrong with a closet, under the bed, fill the kitchen shelves etc. As I said, ANYTHING is better than nothing. It doesn't take much room to stock for a Month for example.

Metals are ok but when The SHTF, you will want to lay low with your supplies for awhile because if you are out and about with your metals looking for supplies...It won't be pretty.

Peace
