So the government shouldn't have some way for people to report when their neighbor has an illegal fully automatic machine gun?
Think for a second. There's nothing inherently wrong with this program.
You guys are upset because it has the words gun owners and New York in the title.

Again, how the heck would a neighbor know whether someone has a legal firearm or not?... It is none of your business to even know if they do...

Heck, why not have everything about you being known to your neighbors and the government?... Why do you need ANY individual right?...

We are upset because a mayority of leftwingers, and even the leftwinger government BELIEVE they have the right to know and control firearms in this country, which in case you are unawares of OWNING and BEARING ARMS/FIREARMS is a RIGHT under the LAW OF THE LAND aka the United States Constitution...

You are upset because you want to FORCE your views and opinions on others on firearms and don't want people complaining about your obvious God complex mentality of wanting to control people...

No, we're upset because the promise of a reward is a transparent attempt to get people to report ANY gun owner (in the hope they have illegal weapons), as an excuse to find and track who has what weapons.

No, they actually shouldn't. It's frankly none of your damn business what your neighbor is doing unless it directly impacts you. Now, if your neighbor is out in their yard shooting, dial 911 and knock yourself out, Sport. Otherwise, butt the hell out of others' business. Do we want Adult Americans to act mature and display self responsibility, or do we want them acting like itty bitty children, running around tattle taling to teacher everytime they see Lil' Jimmy sticking chewing gum in Susie's hair?

ANONYMOUS TIPSTER TURNS IN A MAN WITH AN......UMBRELLA...(no mention if anyone attempted to collect any reward)

A typical Tuesday morning for 42-year-old Michael Di Marzo quickly became a citywide multi-jurisdictional manhunt for him and what witnesses thought was a assault rifle in his hand.
Three schools were locked down and delayed as police scoured the area by ground and air, looking for a man described by a teenage tipster as wearing black clothes and a ski mask.

It wasn’t realized until hours later what was believed to be something along the lines of an AR-15 or AK-47 was more of a AU-15: a 15-inch compact “assault umbrella.”

The “ski mask” was a pulled-up black turtle neck sweater paired with a black watch cap.

Di Marzo had no idea he was at the center of the hunt as he continued about his day March 12, visiting his mother, who had been suffering from complications with diabetes, and doing errands around town.

He took his usual bus routes through town and returned home around 2 p.m., walking the rest of the way through his east Olympia neighborhood.

That’s when he noticed a helicopter overhead.

New Yorkers elected the jackasses that made this possible.
They deserve what they get I suppose.
I know, I know, NYcity has all the power, many million people and all.
But perhaps those folks in the state, that are not in the city need to gather together and demand their represenatives form their area work something out where they are not subject to the whims of the city folk.
Or maybe those folks not in the city were dumb enough to vote for the same liberal gun grabbing, soda banning, nanny state communist sh*#heads.

I wonder how many people will report themselves, and then just wait for someone to try to take their guns? There will be some, but you see how since this is not a national issue, there is not enough support to do anything about it, even though it is not for any state to rule on something in the national Constitution? This would never fly in my state, and other states as well.

Well drug dealers, pimps, drug users. I guess there must be many illegally held guns in New York and this sounds like a good initiative.

The responsible owners need not fear.

Tell that to this family: www.abovetopsecret.com...

It was anonymously claimed and reported that the father of the family had his kid walking around with illegal firearms, based on a FB picture no less.

“Someone called family services about the photo,” said Evan Nappen, an attorney representing Shawn Moore. “It led to an incredible, heavy-handed raid on his house. They wanted to see his gun safe, his guns and search his house. They even threatened to take his kids.” Moore was not arrested or charged.

With his attorney on speaker phone, Moore instructed the officers to leave his home. “I was told I was being unreasonable and that I was acting suspicious because I wouldn’t open my safe,” Moore wrote on the Delaware Open Carry website. “They told me they were going to get a search warrant. I told them to go ahead.”

the person who reported the false allegations of abuse cannot be held liable

All your "if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear" chanting is not changing the truth in any manner.

Loud round of applause!!!!!!!!!!
Scary thing is, that's just what this government wants, they want neighbor turning on neighbor. That way you don't have to worry about the peasants errr citizens banding together demanding a change in our government.

Scenario where it's bad? You get mad at your neighbor/ex gf/ex friend and call and report them. They get their home illegally searched by a swat group and maybe get in trouble for something maybe not, either way their privacy and rights are violated.

How about the fact that the money incentive will have desperate people making reports left and right in hopes of getting some money for whatever. Here's a stretch, but someone could easily buy a cheapo gun and set someone else up to make some money.

It's just a horrible idea. There is too much room for abuse.

It is due to legislation like this that I do not let my neighbors see my firearms. If my wife and I go out shooting I load the car in the garage. I am not a criminal but I want my privacy to be mine.

I do not live in NY or do FB, but I do not want others in business. My guns are legally owned, it is none of your business what guns I have or why I have them. If nothing else you can bet I have them because it is my right to have them. I can legally buy and own every weapon I have, I can afford (or could at the time I bought them) every weapon I have, even if I had a fully automatic weapon it is none of your business because I would get it legally. Personally full auto is a no go because of accuracy, 3 shot bursts are better. The point is that you should be able to own any weapon you can afford and legally own, no matter what type it is.

Also if you want to teach your children about firearms and train them on safety they are going to have to hold them and eventually fire them. If you are overseeing all of this it is your business and no one else's. My 6 year old son wants to start shooting a .22 rifle, if he likes it I might purchase a .22 handgun and teach him that as well. It is no ones business that my son is using a firearm as long as he is doing it in a safe and legal manner with me there to supervise him.

Good point. Another one is the fact that almost everyone carried a gun during the time of Billy the kid, thus the "Dead or Alive" Now if you want to enact a law that allows to carry anywhere, anytime and put dead or alive posters up again, Then Im in.
As long as I don't have to carry a Colt Lightning like he did, it has to rough and long a trigger pull for my taste.
