Yes, they should, as I have not seen where in the Constitution it states that Govt gets to set guidelines for companies in this manner.

Very simple. YOU have the right to work elsewhere. I find it very sad and embarrassing that you and Progressives think that you get to set the rules YOU like, for others.

With the advent of Obamacare and the associated costs, employers are now forced to garner information for "preventative care".

What you at, drink, smoke, how you exercise, if you exercise, the eating habits of your family; are all under the auspices of the State.

You folks wanted "free healthcare".

Well, here's the bill.

gee, i didn't know Obama was able to get his healthcare plan enacted and signed into law all by himself...good thing the republicans didn't have any say in this, right? because, you know, the republicans are always on the side of the middle class and working poor, right? the republicans would never insist on helping big business with provisions, add-ons, or amendments to the new healthcare law that would hurt the middle class and working poor, right?...right?

Mock all you want. Healthcare was screwed up before Obama, he just made it 10 times worse.

It is his signature piece of legislation.

He owns it, yet we're all gonna pay for it.

Typical progressive tripe. Get something that others pay for!

no, he doesn't own it...the republicans have been saying that over and over, when the truth is that the only way he could get it through congress, was to give in to the republicans demanding that there was plenty of corporate welfare to take care of their rich buddies in the healthcare industry. go to any legitimate website, that shows how this bill was formulated and written up, and it's all right there in black and white.

How many republicans voted for Obamacare?

(hint; it's less than "1")

What in the hell is this???

Are the progs backing away from Obamacare now? They don't want to own it? Is Obamacare going to be blamed on Bush as well?

Nah, Second Term 0bama is going to blame First Term 0bama on this.
Which, by doing so, basically does in fact, blame Bush.

So, you are kind of right.

My husbands company gives you 100 dollars in a gift card if you submit this information. I see it as required soon.

Do what...?!? Please explain in more detail. Without jeopardizing your husband's career, of course, could you elaborate?

I've worked in healthcare for over 10 years (multiple settings). I'm not shocked by what you've stated. In fact, you've only pointed out what I've believed true for years. HIPPA is a complete fallacy. We all know that (most of us). Doctor/Patient confidentiality is also complete bunk. By that I mean, it's not designed to protect the patient. Anyway, I'm getting off track here... Please tell us ATSers more about this $100 gift card payment in exchange for info.

My company also added this to the "health insurance policy" this year, specifically siting Obamacare costs as their reasoning. Employees are required to wear pedometers, keep a diet journal, participate in company sponsored events such as walk-a-thons or 5k runs, turn in biometrics results, your BMI (they put the fat calipers on you), and all of your health records are basically an open book.

You are given a choice to "participate in being accountable for your health" OR you can "choose" to pay an added fee to your healh insurance that totals $600 at the end of the year. $600 is worth my privacy and a giant F--you to Obamacare, my company, HIPPA, the whole corrupt system! If I could have paid $600 to get out of the flu shot, I may have considered the idea. We were forced to take the shot or be fired. That's a whole other thread, I know... I know...

The whole healthcare system is so backwards and corrupt. How naive I was to think my career choice a noble profession. I made my choice and said good-bye to that life with no regrets. Now my noble profession is a mother and wife, among other things. I know many unhappy people in this field and I my heart goes out to them. It's not a good field for people intolerant of corruption and greed.

Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

It could be worse they could be like a lot of people and work for a company that doesn`t even offer healthcare benefits.

We have the same thing in our family, but slightly different. Ours starts you at the higher tier of payment and, as you have selected screenings, you acquire points to take off the monthly bill next year.

Unfortunately for us, it is nothing so benign as a biometric screening. Our options include items like colonoscopy, weight loss*, full blood screening, etc. A colonoscopy just isn't worth the $5/ month, and we don't need half the rest. so we are resigned to paying higher prices.

*I looked this one up. It's weight loss strictly according to BMI, not anything health related.

Do you have any idea how many lawyers these insurance agencies have?

This wouldn't be going on if they didn't believe they wouldn't be sued. Insurance companies are very adept at the law (they have to be).

No, this is here to stay. Some people may try to bring this issue to court, but ultimatley they will drop their cases. Insurance companies can keep you locked up in court, racking up legal fees forever.

backing away? not at all, it was clearly the vote of democrats.... what i saying is that the only way it wasn't filibustered by the republicans, is that the healthcare & insurance industry made sure the mandate was gone, and the single-payer provision was dead. they went with what was basically romneys plan in massachucetts.
they went with what the corporate world would except at that time.

It is not like there was a majority who voted on that.

I hate smoking, I am allergic and it triggers Asthma like reaction in me. I hate watching smokers breath smoke in the babies faces...I hate cig butts all over the place...

BUT I have always argued how unfair it is to penalize any product that is legal more then any other. It should not be legal to do so and shocks me what is happening, as they try and control us by taxing and other sly manipulations.

Want insurance? Get on the scale

Woould you please point out exactly where in the ACA this is required? Nope? Didn't think so

I would love to see the proof of such things.
And just because it was Romney's plan in a STATE he was Governor of means crap.
States can have state run Health Care. The Federal Govt has no such right.

No one will listen. Well a few will, but only those who said this sort of stuff was going to happen.

You are right and I believe by the end of this year of maybe January 1st of 2014 it will be mandatory for all businesses to do. People are pissed in the thread about the Domino Farms guy not wanting to pay for his employees BC. People are saying it is law that he has to do so now even if it goes against his religious beliefs. I told them I may not agree with the guy but he should be able to run his business as he sees fit.

Here we have a business doing what will soon be mandatory before so simply so they are ready ahead of time and people are saying the business should not be able to be involved with ones healthcare to this degree. It was asked for they got the government involved in this and we all now must pay the piper. We are all owned by the government. They will control your healthcare either through your employers insurance program or the insurance program that you are forced to buy from a private company. Either way each and every American will have to do this or they will be fined. Welcome to the Brave New World.

This idiocy is the inevitable end result of a fascist system that protects big business and never the individual citizen.

With high unemployment and a scarcity of full time jobs that actually offer health insurance, they are able to get away with this.

I find it amusing, that so many thing in our environment cause us to be unhealthy....yet so many people are set to be punished financially for being products of said environment. The insurance companies are licking their chops over getting that extra $600 per year from people who are still very capable of working, but have issues with blood sugar, weight, etc.

It's all about the money, honey. It doesn't have a damned thing to do with health. You can dress up a pig nine ways from Sunday, it's still a pig. And this is still a form of extortion.

Next up: What are considered "healthy numbers" will suddenly go down, making them even more unattainable. Just like they did with cholesterol and blood pressure.

welcome to health care 2013.
My husband's company had voluntary health assessment forms for us to fill out yearly, and they gave us a gift card. Refusal meant phone calls and hassle.

Now the health assessment form is required or you pay more. Period. The questions are horrible: "how often do you drink alcohol per week?" and there is NO flexibility in answering. You CANNOT say "I drink 3 oz of doctor-prescribed wine per day". If you click on "5-7", you are MARKED as a high risk behavior individual (they tell you) and the phone calls come. Yes, this happened to me. I was eating too much fat in my diet according to them and they had to talk to me about it. Never mind I have no stomach due to cancer and must eat fats to stay in balance.

Oh, you have no idea of the horrors that await.

My friends, who have loyally served this company for 30 years, cannot retire because "retiree" insurance kicks in and their weight is a factor in high (HIGH!) rates. Never mind they have been monitored by doctors for years and have a genetic issue with weight loss. (They are always on doctor-monitored weight loss programs and exercise daily) And the husband's occasional cigar will put him OUT of coverage if he gets ANY illness that could relate to smoking.

And just think, we are the lucky ones who have insurance.

They told me the low and healthy level of triglycerides was 150. Mine were 57, in fact all of my numbers were good. I don't eat the healthiest but when it is warm out I am outside doing stuff all the time (most of it can be seen in the link in my signature). For some reason though the winter weather makes me feel drained and just bad over all. I am stiff and it is hard to move.

They are doing this to get people to go to their doctor and dentist throughout the year even if they are not feeling sick. It is supposed to keep you healthy. Before I started feeling join/arthritis pain I never went to the doctor. Now I go a few times a year.

Sounds like they are on their way to some great insurance rates for the employees that do make the cut. Good for them, looking out for their employees pocketbooks. Some people where I work are a burden on our insurance and I wish they weren't here because my rates would go way down if they were not.

We can agree to disagree,
bring on the flamers,
it has no effect on me

As I understand it, this is a way for CVS to save on insurance costs for the company. By submitting personal medical information, the company will report status of health to the insurance company, who then determines rates. "Healthy" individuals will cost less in terms of insurance coverage for the company. Fining the employee will offset the loss of health credit for the CVS corporation. I personally find the $600 fine immoral. A large hospital company in Louisiana makes it more voluntary for their employees. By wearing pedometers, reporting daily exercise and caloric intake, the employee shows an effort to maintain personal health, thus reducing insurance payments. Many employees wear the pedometers as a choice. The hospital wins, the employee wins: save money, add time to your life.
As CVS employees do not seem to have the ability to walk around because they're either working the register or stocking, the strong arm method appears to be the only way for CVS to cut costs. If they are that concerned with health, why not install treadmills behind every register? I kid, I kid.
Once again, immoral, but in today's economy and with Obammycare looming over us, major corporations are looking for the easy way out. Just speculation on CVS policy blended with facts about the Louisiana medical indusrty.
