Or you could say have some kind of electricity generating turbine that produces more power than the ship needs, and that excess goes to a capacitor of some sort to store said energy, then use said capacitor to discharge when laser needs firing. Have a few capacitors on station to use, when needed, and i think you have a continuous power source for your laser. Also to my knowlege the new ford class will have plenty of power to use laser weaponry when needed. IMO a great replacement for ciws.

Polished shiny surfaces on the missiles or aircraft might make them unaffected by the laser, it will just disperse the beam.
Just a thought.

I think a laser powerful enough wont have to worry about getting reflected. Also, 90% of planes out there are no longer shiny metal surfaces. Nothing like a good ram coating to set on fire.
