I had a very close friend get out of a relationship recently. They were long distance. Being in a few relationships that turned long distance myself, I understood their pain and sadness and what they were going through.

I had never written a song about this, but I was inspired enough to write about it this time. I hope you guys like it and hope it strikes a chord.

Lyrics:

Oh our love is being stretched by all the miles
Yeah, it's drooping down like silly putty strings
And it slowly breaks away
Can we last another day
With this distance
Pulling at our love

When I miss you dearly and I cannot have you
It's like I'm chasing something tugged on by some twine
And I'm running out of breath babe
Is prolonging this a mistake
With this distance
Pulling at our love

And I can't put my life on hold to love you
'Cause what we're doing, girl, it's hurting us both
And the path ahead's too hazed for us to go through
We'll just fall right of a cliff, it's something I know

So let's break up, before we break up.

Oh don't get me wrong I really still do love you
But rubber bands can only stretch so far away
And it's reaching its limit
Keeping both of us in it
With this distance
Pulling at our love

And I don't wanna see this rip to shreds
But the scenario plays out inside my head
Girl, we're already hanging by a thread
Why don't we just cut it instead

And I can't put my life on hold to love you
'Cause what we're doing, girl, it's hurting us both
And the path ahead's too hazed for us to go through
We'll just fall right of a cliff, it's something I know

So let's break up, before we break up.
