I smell something...fishy and rotten,
I think this has something do to with Obamacare!

Of course it does! This administration will make sure we pay for our (and their) prescriptions; pay at the price they believe is fair, even if it breaks YOUR bank (or back). They've got all the taxpayer's money to spend in this fight. They will stop all leaks or work-a-rounds to paying full price for obamacare. Soon, there will be zero competition for the government-enforced-insurance ponzy-scheme.

Oh...and put the respnsibility on to the two largest competitors to the USPS. They are killing two birds (UPS and FEDEX) with one stone.

I hardly care of the fed opens my stuff, rather expect that they do, anyway. Kind of concerned that the family won't get my packages, though.

Ok.

I am fully convinced now that Obama is out to hurt this economy instead of fixing it. I am fully convinced that he does not care one way or another and will create as much havoc as he can before he gets booted/escorted out.

Talk about people not wanting their privacy rights violated- people will stop sending packages. Which means peoiple will stop shipping. Whos wants other people snooping around things that are not even theirs?
(I dont even have to mention the crimes that open up with this it is so ridiculous.).

Who is the govt or the shipping industry for that matter to infringe on our Privacy?

OBAMA- IT IS NONE OF YOUR BUISNESS..... WORRY ABOUT YOURS-DO YOUR JOB OR LEAVE- CAUSE YOU CURRENTLY SUCK AT BEING A GOOD LEADER.

Get your priorities straight cause you are causing lots of pain to lots of people by playing these childish games and not holding up to your elected duties.
The people see through your BS- You dont deserve the chair you sit in everyday, and you dont deserve our sympathy. You have played around enough- Either GET REAL- or GET LOST. We dont need fakes right now.

It was bound to happen. Whenever the federal government has a monopoly or near-monopoly on something -- the mailboxes this time -- they will guard their territory. Now USPS is shutting mail delivery down on Saturdays for lack of money and are going after their competition. I suppose, if lawyers weren't all over the place on this, that if the federal government had its way it would make UPS and FedEx illegal and make it a true monopoly. Patriotically speaking it's a logical way to do it, but not so democratic.

Attacking the illegal stuff is one way to tie up their competition. Transparent boxes for everybody! Rip open the teddy bears on Christmas, they might have drugs in them! New jobs at UPS: box psychic with x-ray vision.

I find this part to be very interesting.

UPS is currently negotiating a settlement with the government, but FedEx is fighting this all the way.

“Settlement is not an option for us when there’s no illegal activity on our part,” Fitzpatrick said.

I found this section most interesting...
FedEx sought to diffuse the standoff by offering to stop doing business with any pharmacies that the government suspected to be involved in illegal activities. The Justice Department declined, citing the potential for the pharmacies to sue over a lack of due process.

I find interesting, and new, that the government is resorting nowadays, when neither the legal process nor black listing is convenient, to intimidation. ("...stunning that the government is not working with us on that solution as they have with other problems in the past... It’s a very simple solution,” FedEx spokesman Patrick Fitzgerald)

I wish people who are on the No-fly list could sue the government for lack of due process, for people like Attorney Jesselyn Radack or DHS officer Julia Davis.

That's a double standard they expect all of us to be forth coming and comply, but they want to keep things secret. OK how about some of that government transparency then?? If they want to look into our mail and packages then we the people expect and should have full access as a US citizen's to look at any US document, notes, official e-mails and packages the US government possesses, even ones labeled as Top-Secret. There is no need to have a Top-Secret document, or facility kept secret from US citizen's since we the people are the government right? See this nonsense of the Big Gov thinking it is a separated entity has got to stop! Acting as though they are an overseer warlord of the world. They are elected officials that serve not the other way around.

It appears as though the administration aims to deputize FedEx and UPS by "requiring" them to police packages and to inspect them accordingly. Hmmm... That does not seem right does it?

The Obama administration is demanding the nation’s two biggest shipping companies police the contents of Americans’ sealed packages, and a FedEx spokesman is warning that the move “has the potential to threaten the privacy of all customers that send or receive packages.”

FedEx and UPS are in the Justice Department’s cross-hairs for not flagging shipments of illegally prescribed drugs the companies say they had no way of knowing were in their possession.

Criminal charges could be coming against the carriers, even though the government has not alleged any deliberate wrongdoing by the companies.

FedEx spokesman Patrick Fitzgerald said his company has a 40-year history of actively assisting the government crackdown on any criminal conduct, but he told WND this probe was very different from the start.

The crux

“What is unusual and really disturbing is it became clear to us along the way that FedEx was being targeted for some level criminal activity as it relates to these medicines that are being shipped from pharmacies, and we find it to be completely absurd because it’s really not our role,” Fitzgerald said. “We have no way of knowing what is legal and not within the packages that we’re picking up and delivering in this situation.”

“At the heart of the investigation are sealed packages that are being sent by, as far as we can tell, licensed pharmacies. These are medicines with legal prescriptions written by licensed physicians. So it’s difficult for us to understand where we would have some role in this. We are a transportation company that picks up and delivers close to 10 million packages every day. They are sealed packages, so we have no way of knowing specifically what’s inside and we have no interest in violating the privacy rights of our customers,” Fitzgerald said.

In addition to the unrealistic expectation that the federal government seems to have for the companies to know what’s in every package, Fitzgerald said protecting the rights of customers is paramount and the issues go hand-in-hand.

Nothing is sacred, not even your 3 month supply of Zocor from Caremark

Assigning these companies the role of law enforcer is simply way out of bounds and the Administration is not interested in working anything out with FedEx. Not Surprising!!

FedEx sought to diffuse the standoff by offering to stop doing business with any pharmacies that the government suspected to be involved in illegal activities. The Justice Department declined, citing the potential for the pharmacies to sue over a lack of due process.

“If the government were to come to us and give us the name of a customer that’s engaged in some level of illegal activity, we can immediately stop shipping for that customer. We will not tolerate any illegal activity within our networks,” Fitzgerald said. “What we want here is a solution that will apply for the entire industry and serve the public’s interest. That’s why we find it completely absurd and, to a large degree, stunning that the government is not working with us on that solution as they have with other problems in the past. As long as they’re not doing that, there’s really no solution even if they were to pursue an investigation or criminal charges against a specific company. There needs to be an industry-wide solution that will put a stop to this problem.”

Did I mention NO Cooperation from the Govt?

That leaves FedEx and UPS with the task of stopping illegal shipments from sources the government will not divulge.

“The comparison that we’ve made is a no-fly list. It’s as if the government were to go to major commercial airlines and accuse them of some level of criminal activity if they were to allow somebody on the no-fly list onto one of their planes without providing them a no-fly list,” Fitzgerald said. “What we want here is the no-fly list for online pharmacies. If they are aware of some level of illegal activity by some number of pharmacies, simply provide us that list and we will stop providing service. It’s a very simple solution.”

Very simple indeed. Now its online pharmacies.... what's next?

Good luck on that, the sheer number of packages that are sent daily is staggering. I worked for UPS and we processed over 200 thousand packages daily at our sort center.

If this actually becomes a reality, I have a proposition, as far as a protest goes.

Let's all go to our local Dollar Store and spend $5 on baby rattles. Lets then package each of those rattles and send them to random locations.

Are they going to have to be entering your homes and raping your children before people start getting real ???

It's becoming everyday now I log onto ATS I read just another way the American government have found to give it to you guys up ass, it's so sad to see this happen to a nation that I once adored....

Well first of all; of course UPS isn't fighting so much, they are unionized and this is Obamanation.
Now for my main point, why exactly are these drugs illegal? If they are prescribed by a doctor who's business is it of the government? Well we all know the answer to that, and this whole deal might be stepping on the toes of Obamacare.
Prescriptions, there is a whole other topic. Yes your doctor should recommend a specific medicine for a specific ailment. After all he is supposed to be the expert. But as a full grown adult shouldn't I be able to just walk into a pharmacy and ask for an antibiotic for an obvious infection? Get a decongestant without showing ID? What business is it of the friggin US government's what is in a private package shipped by a private company?
Sorry just overloaded with too much, way too damn much of 0.000002% of our population, supposedly freely elected by the people interfering where they got no business interfering.

Nothing illegal about them. That is why the legal process and the black-listing don't work in this case, and they have to resort to intimidation.
Big Pharma just doesn't like when you reduce their profits - and when its a monopoly they can be much more agrressive. And now they have the "barrel of the gun" (Mao) behind them.

So what are 99.999% doing about it? Watch sports, American Idol, play computer games, maybe some street racing.

I believe this is being done to shut down the flow of drugs from the so called "Canadian Pharmacies"

While there are a number of real Canadian Pharmacies there is a growing number of fake ones based in Korea and china that sell fake or substandard drugs.

The fake Canadian Pharmacies if you track there ip addresses find IP in other countries and they ship there drugs in large air freight containers from china through Canada.

Because they are only shipped "through Canada" and the end user is not in Canada the government in Canada does not inspect the drugs and nor care about transhipments of legal drugs

That's true but there is no other place they can go to. Which is better, Cypress, Bulgaria, Greece, Spain, Italy, Romania, Portugal, Ireland, Britain, India, China, Africa, Bolivia, Venezuela, Russia, Syria, Yemen, Irak, Afghanistan?

Why is the Fed getting involved in this? Where is the money being lost? Clearly, the sole purpose of our government these days to to protect the interests of companies. Do the pharmacy really loose that much money to illegal shipments? The government can't be doing this to protect us from ourselves. Sounds strange. for sure.

UPS is union (teamsters). So the government is offering them a deal.
Fedex is non-union, non "employee owned." So this will take them out.

THERE IT IS! Excellent post.

I want to know why the Obama administration still has a 40-something approval rate.
Look what is happening right out in the open ... and people refuse to see it.

People watching NBC nightly news and 60 minutes have no clue as to what is really happening right under their noses. State run media and softball publicity interviews by Obama friendly networks are clearly working.

All is well!!
