And for the third time, I was trying to make a point about the outrageous claims being made about what would happen from this accident. Therefore, I was grabbing sites that were making outlandish claims, to show the outrageousness of the fear mongering that has been going on since this accident happened. So yes, I'm going to grab sites like Beforeitsnews, and other sites that normally I stay far far away from and would never use.

You do realize coal plants have killled many, many, many more people than either of these level 7 events, correct?

Industry kills off millions each year due to pollution, and a good chunk of that is coal being burned.

I wonder about the many many level 2 and up events that get less coverage than a 15 second commercial on the tube?
You are correct in the above statement, what coal plants have not done is to eradicate vast tracks of land for the time period of thousands of years......

Coal plants have not caused birth defects on a mass scale, coal plants have not caused masses of people to relocate and start over with little or zero compensation.

Coal plants can be shut down anytime on a whim no need for a panic button.

But we are not talking coal power here in this thread, we are talking about a Country that is being exterminated as we type here.

Does anyone have a link to current status at the plant?

Still reading most of the thread, just wondering

Now to get back on topic, I really don't give a rat's behind if you don't think this topic is as big a threat as is being discussed here. If you don't think it is, then start offering hard, concrete proof or get the heck out of this thread.
Unless such "just fine" members can actually show credentials that they are nuclear physicists or of similar professions, we don't want you telling us all to relax.
Now, go take your family to Chernobyl for spring break and leave us to be concerned.

Did you catch that Team Just Fine?
They said in the above video that they are still planning on building a casting around the plant and nobody can stay there for longer than 15 minutes because of the radiation. These visitors are paying about $100 dollars to be exposed to radiation. I bet the only reason they're allowing this is because they need the tourist money to pay for the shroud they need to build around it. Sad.
Oh, well. Nothing to worry about. Move along, folks!

Hmm, why so many deniers out there? Is this really an issue that people are cognizant of their own denial, willfully?

It's no secret of radioactive plumes of Cesium 137 being recorded as they travel from Japan and baste Alaska and the rest of North America. Below is a link showing the radioactive plume models over time since 2011. I don't know of any more recent (2013) models, and I don't think anyone really wants to publish it anyways. Oh, and it has not stopped:

ENPC.fr - Modelling the dispersion of Fukushima-Daichii nuclear power plant release

Watch the animated (flash) plume, any questions? One that comes to mind is - has it stopped yet?

Then we can look at another link of seals getting "arctic sunburn" (what?!?) in Alaska. Does this look like sunburn to you:

ENENews.com - Could Alaska's mystery seal illness be Arctic sunburn?

But who knows, maybe people will argue that it is "sunburn", which could be comedy to hear that defense.

If you want to dig further, maybe you can compare those "burns" on the seals to other animals, perhaps cattle that are near the Fukushima reactors, and the farmer refuses to exterminate them (but they don't call it radiation, its the "Fukushima Syndrome"):

ENENews - Fukushima Synndrome

There's something to see here folks, don't move along.

We don't need to be nuclear physicists. Are you one? I didn't think so. All we have to do is be intelligent enough to take in a range of sources from many professionals. The one's with the credentials you seek, are almost all in alignment that this disaster is far from an ELE, or anything of the sort.

That is very simple truth. The fear mongers are choosing to post false information, or take the perspective of a lone professional who is going off the rails. The threat is large enough as is. No need to fear monger it.

I see. So that video I posted about Chernobyl contains all lies.
Why would they lie to us about radiation levels still being extremely high in that area 25 years after the fact? Why are they still wanting to shroud the unit? Why haven't they shrouded it already? Why are they allowing tourism there? Maybe they know that people are stupid and believe them when they say it's safe and everything's fine so they will give them the money they need for the shroud.
Do you have kids? If you do, start saving up now so they can tour Japan in 25 years for 15 minutes after paying a few thousand dollars so they can contain it then. Yeah, that's the ticket. Fix it two generations from now.

How does anything which your saying have to do with the topic we're discussing

You seem to be changing the goalposts. Nobody is denying that Chernobyl is still radioactive.

Apples and oranges.

For whatever it's worth, I don't have kids, and wouldn't dare attempt to bring them into this world right now.

Not because of Chernobyl or Fuku. When the lights go out, you'll have to worry about the sum total of 700 nuclear sites around the world going into meltdown, and that's only a slight bit of my concern.

This is nearly a non-event in my mind.

Changing the goal posts. This phrase is being used by a certain class of member more and more.
No. I'm not changing the goal post. I'm trying to demonstrate that everything's NOT just fine and if Chernobyl hasn't been remedied yet, what are the odds that Japan is going to fix their reactors any time soon?
All you and everyone else on Team Just Fine keeps saying that Japan is going to figure it out before things get really bad. What I've posted is proof that they most likely won't get it fixed like you and others are droning on about. If the government's solution to Chernobyl is to use the money from tourism to clean up their mess, I really don't know whether to laugh or cry. It doesn't take a scientist to see what's going to happen. Just a little common sense.

Well then we are misinterpreting each other. I have never said, "just fine", nor do I think that there isn't a chance for a worst case scenario to unfold.

What I have repeatedly said is that the fear mongers are falsely making claims which the science doesn't back up.

That's all.

The issue is here is that you don't agree with the science being presented and the science you're presenting is being agreed upon either.
Intrptr, I think that's how his/her handle is spelled, sounds the most knowledgeable so far and I agree with what he/she has been communicating. Those that keep screaming about fear mongering haven't sounded nearly as knowledgeable. I'm going with what my gut is telling me as well as what history is demonstrating.
You go ahead and keep believing everything is not going to be that bad. I'll keep hoping for the best and looking to those who are offering sincere knowledge topped off with common sense.

Edit to Add:
Report from December 2012:

Considering this report about the sinking of the land (among other things) and the most recent conditions at the nuclear plant as well as the constant threat of another large quake, anyone who thinks this conundrum is going to get remedied soon is an idiot.
Good night.

Understood - however I believe you went about it in a fashion that alienated your audience. You can find many official sites and experts who will back up your point. While I disagree, I will pay attention (mostly anyway).

I have some history with this subject, so know some good sources. I've been reading about it since I was nine and found out about Atomic Bombs. They terrified me. My Dad made certain that I was taught about them and the controls on them (Army Brat, Born in Japan). My first job was in a building with a reactor and the grad students explained as best they could. I know people that work with medical isotopes and feel a bit better about them - though will avoid like the plague. Don't even like Dental X-rays - wonder about long term damage to gums as such but don't have anything to support it and I do get them.

But when it comes down to it in the end - it isn't worth it.

We have no way to ensure the safety of nuclear plants, they have to be near water sources, vast water sources that can get contaminated (even if only by the heat). We can't anticipate all nor plan for all contingencies. We can't store the waste or make it safe (though the US government makes bullets out of uranium waste and wants to add contaminated metal to the recycling stream)

www.epa.gov...

www.globalresearch.ca...

See one source in favor and official and once source opposed and private.

I don't want to make any enemies on this subject. I want to talk and learn and share what I have learned. This is something (as is food safety and freedom) that will take all of us to solve.

Off the soapbox and to bed for me.

One step from meltdown: Fukushima NPP avoids another crisis

On Monday, March 18, at 6:57am local time, an electricity outage disabled nine facilities at the Fukushima plant, including cooling systems of the four storage pools for used fuel rods. TEPCO dispatched 25 specialists to deal the problem, but it took all of 30 hours for technicians to repair the systems.

On Wednesday, just 12 minutes after midnight (15:12 GMT), power supply to the cooling systems was fully restored, reported TEPCO. However, certain questions remain.

Speaking at a briefing in Tokyo, TEPCO’s general manager Masayuki Ono was honest: “We haven’t found the cause,” he said.

Greetings:

What happened here? Did you mix us up with the detractors?

We are on your side - and have been since 311.

Here are a couple of our threads right here on our beloved ATS that you might find interesting that have not, as yet, made it to the signature:

711 days after Fukushima changed the world forever on 3/11/11

“FukuFlu/Fallout Fluenza” Targets North America

FukuGate: We've been conned

Please check out our other signature threads to see that we are sincere in our efforts to provide information so that concerned citizens can make intelligent choices.

Sorry for the direct challenges that got bounced. However, we are suspect of some poster's motives and said so - not meaning in any way to nudge T&C. We thought we made some valid points in questioning motives, but, obviously, that did not cut the mustard.

It certainly is not our intention to cause discourse, but sometimes, our keyboard mouth gets the best of us and we challenge 'people' as to their real intentions when discussing such a serious matter... we will be more vigilant in the future, Mods.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
