Sound can not travel in space since it is a vacuum, may be the sound is generated when the solar flare hit the earth atmosphere. but even thinking about that there little no air near the magnetosphere so not sure how we could hear it.

Could and would, to talk about it next week seems hardly a warning since most of the educated world has known about this for the last 50 years. Big Solar flares are bad, so are many other things. If they don't prepare then they are just ignorant.

Yes sound does travel through space ,The voices of gorge Washington and lincoln are bouncing around out there now ,but very weak.
I think the sun is the out put of a black hole, and flares are from planets getting sucked up and ground into fuel for the sun. A NASA probe filmed a time/space warp next to the sun in 2006.

LOL...really? Can you link the video? And how did they know it was a time/space warp they were filming? Did Tim Curry pop out singing "Let's do the time warp again"?

If they have to turn the grid off for a while to save us 7 the country so be it,i'd rather live without power for a few days than a few years.
I wonder how far in advance they can detect solar flares,minutes ?? hours ?? days ?? Weeks ??

What will be will be.

The most notice we'd get would be roughly 3 days depending on the size and speed of the CME.

It can be sound of earth then?like seismic faults lines moving,And to the people who are telling me why i put warning in the thread because if a bad solar flare hit us only rich will survive and believe me lot of people don't even know what solar flare is,american knows but other poor countries don't even know what the hell it is and what is its danger

Time to line the bunker with Aerogel... Actually I was thinking it would be great to have my chicken houses done in it as well as my home. If I could find a good dealer and buy it wholesale it would be a great thing to do.

I really do not own a bunker, but if you could get a deal on aerogel it would protect us from the affects of dangerous sun spots.

So many things we could be doing to protect infrastructure and individuals but no, bureaucracy is just what it has always been.

If a sinister/bad solar flare CME ever hit us only rich will survive in there survival bunkers and places where power is protected from solar flares meanwhile the poor fight for basic need of food and water and eventually killing each other for only basic need in other words survival of fitest then we will know how human we really are.it can be good depopulation plan as some say by illuminati ellite etc.thankyou

Well, i was expecting a horrific power grid crippling solar flare to bombard us and send us into the stoneage........ And all that happened was my data plan expiring on my phone and me running out of 4g data. Im rather dissappointed. ;(

We need a four day power outage around here so I can test all the preparations that I have done. Not a four week one though, that would get kinda bad for a lot of people. When the President was in Marquette a couple of years back, he mentioned that the power grid is a fairly new technology and that there is a possibility that it could have problems as it did in the past. A warning from the president of our country and still most people did not hear it here in the area. Maybe the locals think we are immune from this. I guess they feel their flu shots prevent this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but, I thought it didn't matter if the grid was on or off if a CME hit. It would hit it much as an EMP would and fry all electronics that weren't properly shielded.

How does sound travel through space? I'm assuming you mean radio waves? What you mean is "data" can travel through space lol I don't think blasting audio in space is an efficient way to transmit sound at all.

I saw a documentary a little while ago about solar flares, it was BBC Horizon, but have found a written evidence below of the intention presented in the documentary.

I have mentioned it before in another thread, that here in the UK one of the ideas being taken seriously in the event of such an event is to...


'It sounds counter-intuitive, but actually the National Grid could switch on the whole grid, to block the effect of extra currents.


Whether this is what they will try to do in such an event remains to be seen, personally I can see the logic, but I'm not convinced it would be effective, certainly wouldn't want to be testing the theory at the time of an event anyway.

Wow, is that a misleading headline. Of course the potential is always there for a strong solar flare - that doesn't mean it's "imminent". In fact, the current solar maximum is proving to be somewhat of a dud so far...
