Yep. I still can't believe that the ex who set it up got immunity.
What a crock the justice system is. No wonder it's called the CRIMINAL JUSTICE system instead of the VICTIM JUSTICE system.

An Adult Crime deserves and Adult Punishment.

I was rather shocked to read the amount of support these sex criminals received from the legal world.

I was also rather shocked that this was not a crime of her word against his word . This was a crime that the criminals filmed in order to boast about........forever. They incriminated themselves and yet their punishment was minimal.

Take it back to court and start again.

I know!
And what was that BS about them being convicted of digitally raping her?
What happened to the sodomy charges?
Oh, I get it. Their peepees are the size of their index fingers. I guess this is why they have to rape because they know they can't please a girl.

Yah, I remember when this first started being reported by Anon to bring attention to it. They said she dumped her ex and he convinced two teammates and one of the teammates girlfriend, to lure her out to a party in revenge for dumping him. As I recall, not sure if it was one of the guys that was sentenced, but one of the guys involved that night his mother (or mother figure he lived with?) was also an attorney assigned to the case and was threatening and intimidating the girl and her family so they wouldn't go to court about it.

Also someone mentioned that at least part of the team had the nickname rape squad, but I doubt she would have known as the information said she was from another town so the gossip may not have spread that far before she started dating her ex.

One of my friends in the military was raped and they (the military) tried VERY hard to brush it under the table. It took over a year of her fighting to get anything done. She was lucky that they eventually allowed her to transfer to another base to get away from the situation and the guy. When she went to go see a therapist afterwards the military demanded to be given copies of what she said and demanded she turn over any journals she was keeping to help her write down her feelings and work through it. They asked all her friends if she was a whore and kept asking even when everyone said she wasn't. I understand they were trying to figure out who was telling the truth, but from the beginning it was just assumed she must be a whore. (This may have something to do with the fact that a huge portion of women in the military DO sleep around, but stereotyping is still bad and helps no one if the cases aren't looked at as a new separate case of individuals)

Yes women lie about being raped, but treating all women claiming rape as liars out to ruin a man is shameful. This story reminds me of my friend (although my friend wasn't nearly as abused as this poor girl). I think we live in a disgusting society when people tweet comments like that and CNN reports that poor future football players are now tarnished due to a girl getting drunk and apparently causing them to have sex with her unconscious body. That disrespects men AND women by implying its all women's fault that men have no control and are animals who will hump anything just laying there.

sure anon was involved. I bet it was hella hard to get evidence on kids that post every thing everywhere and talk about every thing to anyone.

Having said that. The sentence is too short but i wouldn't want them to be in juvi/jail too long lest they be corrupted even more in the criminal school of higher learning which is our prison system.

I saw this today on the news and was in a room full of my co-workers when it came on. As they all started talking about it I had to speak up and say something. I reminded them all that without the "terrorist" group Anonymous, they wouldn't have the slightest clue about that poor child or what she's been through. I told them they can all thank their government for saving us from those terrible hackers.

thoughtcatalog.com... pretty good article i came accross today and like how it keeps it gender neutral now keep in mind this is a mother talking to her 8 and 11 year olds if memory serves me so they would be reacting diffrently at their age then we as adults would but i thought it was a pretty well written article

Dear Boys, Some really horrible things happened to someone who could be one of your friends, and it was done by some people who could be your friends. You’re 11 and almost-8 now, so the incident that made me write this letter isn’t something you’ve heard about, but this stuff keeps happening, unfortunately. So I need to talk to you about it. First of all, I know we talk all the time about how special your bodies are, and how you’re the only one who gets to decide what to do with your body. I’ve never made you put anything in your mouth that you didn’t want to, or touch anyone you didn’t want to, or talk to anyone you didn’t want to, because I wanted you to understand that you and you alone control your boundaries. We worked on blowing a kiss so you could show that you liked someone without having to touch them, and high fives if you were ok touching them but only with your hand. We talked all the time about not letting people tell you that what you wanted was wrong or that they knew better, and that you should always always tell your dad or grandma or me if anyone makes you feel uncomfortable.
the rest of the article is well worth reading and has some good points raised.

Sentences were way too light.

Should have been charged as adults.

I hope they are at least gonna have a felony on their records for life (probably not), and have to be registered sex offenders for life(also probably not gonna happen).

At least some justice was done as weak as it was.

voices.yahoo.com...

Crimes Involving Children For the most part, crimes that involve children will stay on a person's record. Crimes of a sexual nature especially can't be removed. For instance, child pornography convictions and sexual assault convictions are going to be on a person's record for life. No state will drop a person's record if it involves a child, whether the crime is sexual in nature or not.
nope it is their for life as i think depending on state its a teir 3 sexual crime involving a child(minor) and as such their juvi record will not be expunged as standard, also they will have this on their record for ever as far as background checks and employment goes so im pretty sure these kids are (rightly so ) screwed for life not to mention they will have to register for sex offender status

politix.topix.com... well guess some news outlets screwed up and named the rape victim so sadly her ordeal is not over yet

Coverage of the Steubenville rape case by the three major cable networks has come under serious fire today. CNN is receiving the harshest criticism after Candy Crowley and other hosts expressed sympathy with the perpetrators. But Fox and MSNBC have also been lambasted for naming the victim on air. The victim has already received death threats from local teenage girls. Now that she's been named on national television, it's all too likely that she will be harassed by people she doesn't know.
i hope this girl sues the every loving crap out of these news agencies and gets soo rich she can move out of this country and start a new life somewhere with out all the stigma and crap that has been tossed her way by these animals and idiotic reporters

Rehab is just what they need. While I do not know them personally, I doubt they are what you would call serious/pedophile type sex offenders. Rather they're young men who cannot handle their liquor, have always been told "yes, son", and were so flamboyant in their total disregard for this girls welfare and safety that they'll always be known for "this" first, every thing else after; for the rest of their lives.

thank you annon, i think the sentence for rape should be life, sadly culture from hollywood and movies and other groups in society encourage womanisation and fuel sexual urges amoungst young men and older males, itsd sad our youth are already this disicable at this age.

You scare me.
Has it even been determined if she was slipped something and didn't even drink that much?
Are you aware that the ex set up this attack? Are you aware of the legal term "premeditated"?
Are you aware that she wasn't drinking alone with them and that they were at several parties, some of which she was taken to while she was unconscious?
Considering your comment, there are fraternities and binge drinking clubs that promote activities like these and believe that its the victim's fault if they are harmed during the party. I wouldn't doubt if you were a member of one.

The charge was 'Rape' and that IS serious I don't believe that 'pedophelia' was

mentioned?
as the victim was not pre pubescent pedophelia was not the issue.

And those 'young men who cannot handle their liquor' as you put it, deserve to be

first and foremost known for their crime for the rest of their lives, after all their 'victim' will

be unable to shake off the effects of what they did to her for the rest of her life

Those guys got off easy.

And that girl will now have to probably move away from that town as the people will probably resent her for getting their star football players in trouble.

Seriously, I count my lucky stars every day that when I came to USA a lifetime ago, my family didn't end up in some small redneck town like that.

This story doesn't scratch the surface of the injustices that go on in that town with the support of those entrusted to uphold the law.

I just came upon the website of the rehabilitation facility the rapists will be spending their time. It is not the type of incarceration that you would think that these perps should get. It is a cushy way to do your time. It is a complete rehabilitation program that serves boys from 15-18 years old and they specialize in the treatment of juvenile sex offenders.

Lighthouse Youth Services

Lighthouse Youth Center-Paint Creek (LYC-PC) is a residential rehabilitation center for male adolescents ages 15-18, at admission, who have been adjudicated delinquent for crimes that would be considered a felony one or two for an adult offender. Until 1993, LYC-PC was the only privately owned and managed facility of its type in Ohio. LYC-PC is widely recognized as one of the most outstanding youth corrections facilities in the country with a recidivism rate less than half of traditional institutions.

LYC-PC rehabilitates youth through an intense program which provides positive peer culture and extensive cognitive behavioral intervention. Noted by surveyors for its care of families and profound respect for the young people served, the program was cited by CARF International in 2006 as an “Exemplary” program.

Admission Criteria:
1) 15-18 years old
2) Male
3) Felony offenders without history of serious mental health issues

They ARE the serious type sex offenders. I disagree liquor was a major factor. It was planned BEFORE the party, the were sober enough to know how to drive and work a camera, and they violated her by posted it after they sobered up.
