I've always loved the song "White Rabbit".

I've always thought it had really deep meaning.

I especially like the clip from the movie "The Game"
with Michael Douglass when they play White Rabbit.

Great footage from Woodstock-- I wasn't there but
I could have I had just turned 5 I think.

Rebel 5

P.S. I loved The Banana Splits when I was a kid. I even had their 6-wheel
amphibious vehicle model when I was little. Played with it all the time.

Thanks to the OP for posting this thread! This is highly relevant to document how the people have spoken out over time using the art of music! Here's one from a band called Bad Religion. The name of the song is American Jesus. I will post most of the lyrics here of this song:

We've got the american Jesus
He helped build the President's estate
I feel sorry For the earth's population
'Cuz so few Live in the U.S.A.
At least the foreigners Can copy our morality
They can visit but they cannot stay
Only precious few Can garner the prosperity
It makes us walk With renewed confidence
We've got a place to go when we die And the architect resides right here

We've got the american Jesus
Overwhelming millions every day (Exercising his authority)
He's the farmers barren fields
The force the army wields
The expession in the faces Of the starving millions
The power of the man
He's the fuel that drives the clan
He's the motive and conscience Of the murderer
He's the preacher on t.v. The false sincerity
The form letter that's written By the big computers
He's the nuclear bombs And the kids with no moms
And I'm fearful that He's inside me

I just discovered this song earlier this weekend as a result of watching the movie ' The Game' starring Michael Douglas. I find it to be a phenomenal song. How odd that you posted a thread about it...

Marley wasn't just a great song writer and political activist,
in my mind he was equal to what religious people would call
the second coming,a true human being, sadly few are like him

The world lost a great man and few realised it...

ONE LOVE

I think they were in deep with the Illuminati in the 80's when they released the very esoteric and symbolic "We built this city (on Rock and Roll)". Of course they had morphed into the band Starship by that time, which indicates some extra-terrestrial connections. Who are the "we" they are referring to? We built this city indeed.

That song was written about the glory of the former music scene in their home base of San Francisco.

If we are doing political songs then I think I'll just on my knees and pray that...

I can't believe there's a music thread, political or otherwise, on ATS and Barry McGuire's Eve of Destruction didn't make the first page! To me it's the AboveTopSecret theme song!

As true today as it was then. He's been getting more airplay lately as well. An Australian talk show actually did an entire episode on how prophetic it's been. Here's the live rendition from that show:

How bout some Nine Inch Nails...

Rage Against the Machine...

Anti-Flag...

KMFDM...

There's tons of stuff out there..

Believe it or not, not EVERYONE enjoys listening to pop music and watching MTV. But then again, I guess we're just freaks right? Oh well.
I'm sure if 99% of the people here went out into a random crowd of people and started talking about ATS, they'd look at you like you had something wrong with you. Maybe we do, maybe we don't. Maybe we'll never know the answer.

The Dead Kennedys

I Am The Owl

I am your plumber, no I never went away.
I still bug your bedroom, and pick up everything you say.
It can be a boring job... to monitor all day your excess talk.

I hear when you're drinking, and cheating on your lonely wife
I play tape recordings of you to my friends at night

We've got our girl in bed with you.
You're on candid camera.
We just un-elected you. HA!

I am the owl
I seek out the foul
Wipe 'em away Keep America free.
For clean livin' folks like me. Hey Hey!

If you demonstrate against somebody we like,
I'll slip on my wig, and see if I can start a riot.
Transform you to an angry mob, and all your leaders go to jail for my job

But we ain't the Russians... political trials are taboo.
We've got secret ways of getting rid of you
Fill you full of '___', and Turn you loose on a freeway. Wheeee!

Send you spinning
Send you spinning
Send you spinning out on the freeway

The press, they never even cared,
why a youth leader walked into a speeding car.
In ten years or so we'll leak the truth... but by then, it's only so much paper

You know, Watergate hurt, but nothing really ever changed...
A teeny bit quieter, but we still play our little games

We still play our little games
We still play our little games We still play our little games
We still play a lot of games
I am the owl

Greetings:

Great thread, OP! Thank you!

Please allow us to share a great song (IMHO) from a contemporary artist - our friend, and proud TEAM RABUN member, JD Stenzel, that seems to fit here.

Send Me One More Soldier

This is Blackbird Raum. They are probably one of the most unique bands I ever heard. The best definition for the genre is acoustic anarcho-punk.

Actually, Jefferson Starship was originally a side project with Slick, Kanter, Jerry Garcia and others, in 1970. They put out an album called 'Blows Against the Empire."

Just sayin'...

But you want a contemporary treatment of things to come...

What do they mean by saying "I am the owl"? Just curious about the reference.

Ah Dead Kennedys. Jello Biafra's spoken word albums made me politically aware when I was around 14. I don't really agree with every single thing he says, but Jello's still one of my heroes.
