the nazca lines werent ´ designed´ to be viewed from the air. this is an side effect of there actual porpose, because they developed so HUGE in dimension.
their actual porpose was beeing used as ceremonial walking paths. when you dig just a little bit deeper you will find documentations that show this findings:
the paths have been compacted by footsteps as the ancients appear to have walked along the paths in some ritualistic ceremonies.

I think it isnt possible to reach a conclusion using a very old map.
