Absolutely right. The President shouldn't be eating anything with anything that he didn't bring himself.

He has staff that could check the menu ahead of time and duplicate it for him. Cosmetically, no one would know the difference. Maybe he does do that already and there was a glitch of some kind on the night in question.

I don't think there should be any leeway at all on this. It is just a sad matter of the facts of life in the world we have made for ourselves. JFK said that they could always get him if they really wanted to. That's my only really bitter thought about him. He should have been a lot more hard nosed about that sort of thing. Instead of refusing to wear the cowboy hat at a dinner in Ft. Worth, he should have fired his carousing Secret Service agents and brought in the Army to guard him in Dallas.

What's more important, pretending that America is a nice place or getting your legislative agenda through?

The use of a food taster could serve a secondary purpose as well. That would be to actually validate a poisoning. I think if the POTUS became ill with what looked like a stomach virus or some other type of illness, treatment could be passed off as take some xyz and rest, while if the SS agent also got identical or very similar symptoms in the same timeframe, it would pretty much ensure that the POTUS is whisked off to a care center for poison id and possible treatment or the POTUS and SS agent's passing would be enough to show the rest of the world that a deliberate action was taken against the POTUS and thus the bombing begins or lockdown etc....

I find in most of the time, what people worry about being done to them are the same things they do to other people, its like the first thing that comes to mind, subconscious thought, example : one of my not so close friends is always worried about people stealing from him or ripping him, which is what he is well known for doing himself.
Back on point though, this does seem to be fairly primitive practice, does the mining industry still rely on canaries, any ways Id best shoe my horse and load my wagon as I have to go buy carrier pigeons and get a curse lifted today.

One must remember that Michelle has Potus completely under her thumb. Maybe the food taster is working for Barack's wife...and is there to taste for calories and preservatives : )

I'm not really sure I understand the point of a food taster. Is it to make sure the food tastes good? Isn't Obama the judge of what tastes good and what doesn't? Perhaps someone can elaborate on the point of a food taster for me.

Slow acting poison will be treatable. Its the quick ones that they worry about. Like cyanide...

No time to save the victim. Why not use tasters? They try the food just before the president and it only takes a minute...

Technicians with little labs on carts would look even funnier.

Edit; Besides we probably have meddled in other countries affairs that way ourselves. There is some truth to that. Google CIA and Castro.

Quite frankly, if I was Obama, I would be suspicious too. CIA and Mossad can do wonders with poisons.

You have made some good points about JFK. He did not follow their agenda, and they wanted him dead. He also pledged to expose them. If he had fired all his secret service agents and brought in a hand picked crew of military men he would still be alive today. (Very old though)

Well I guess if you behave in such a way that you alienate yourself from your own people and nations around the world you probably need a food taster. The easiest solution is to stop being such a retarded individual. Stop invading other countries, give your people a good education and free health (no that isn't communism or socialism its just the right thing to do), take the power away from the oil companies and food industry, stop giving the people who created the economic disaster bonuses and kick their asses instead. I wonder when the government will follow in the footsteps of Cyprus? If that happens perhaps a taster will be the least of his worries???

I wonder about the efficacy of a food taster too. There are even natural poisons, such as ones from certain deadly mushrooms, that will not yield any symptoms until it is too late unless one gets an organ transplant, and even then its a close-run thing.

It's very telling that a national leader needs a food taster. George W Bush and Cheney had them, as did Hitler and Stalin. WInston Churchill and FDR -- not so much. Guess just evil, paranoid tyrants need one...
