And although no one is thought to have been killed the missile firing has enraged the international community. Read more: www.thesun.co.uk...

If true, this is definitely an escalation from the recent rhetoric coming out of North Korea.

How far will the new, young leader push this?

If true, it's not anything that doesn't fit the typical behavior pattern for NoKo. This is all about Lil' Kim building street cred in his own hood. His grandfather did it, his daddy did it, and now he's got to play the role.

It's like that one sad old guy at the bar who gets drunk and threatens to fight someone, every single weekend, but never actually goes through with it.

IE it's empty posturing and bravado.

I honestly feel bad for the people of North Korea. They are starving to death in droves because their leaders have Napoleon Syndrome and it would be instant death to point out that Dear Leader has no clothes.

Agreed.

A couple more sources are starting to come through:
AFP
RT

The missiles were reportedly KN-02 mobile missiles, which are launched from the back of SCUD-like trucks and have the shortest range of all North Korean missiles.

They are a domestic variant of the Syrian ‘Scarab A’ missile, and have a range of 120-140km. They are usually used to take out large building targets, and can carry a small, tactical, nuclear load.

Edit: On local news in Seattle...the newscaster just said that the Pentagon is going to increase security because of North Korea's continued threats.

I can agree with your analogy, totally fits this current scenerio.

The question is.... Will the New Kim on the block bravado'n around trying to build his street cred~ Inherintly cause to much of a rucus and start somthing it can't handle?

IE: Sure his father and his father's father did this but will the world as we know it today, let these pass idly by?

Boy, North Korea has money to burn. How much does a missile cost them to make. Probably not much since their people are probably working for next to nothing.

It's a different world than when North Korea actually had a chance to stir the pot. The Korean War was a by-product of the Cold War. It could not have happened the way it did otherwise. It's a whole different game now. Russia is no longer pushing boundaries and China and the US are allies - whether the propaganda tells us so or not. If NoKo were to get too froggy and actually throw a punch at anyone now... be it South Korea or Japan? It would be Iraq or Afghanistan again and very quickly. Only this time around we'd probably actually be doing the people a real favor.

The DPRK is having their own war games this is just part of it, they shelled an island 2 days ago, it is nothing to get hyped up about, now when they do hit something of US or SK, then it will be worth the effort. Till then, same old same old.

Agreed.

.... and NK government's antics would actually be quite humorous if they weren't constantly threatening the US with a "pre-emptive" nuclear war. The good news is even if they become a threat, I'm pretty sure that China would help nullify said threat. They seem to be getting pretty fed up with that country as well.
