New legislature doesn't land on my desk. So it is not in the realm of my job description or pay grade. Laws aren't being manipulated based on me opening my mail. The same can't be said of a Senator.

Right. This is their job. So the least they can do is exhibit some professionalism. At least keep up the appearance. It is unlike any other job though. Being a Senator isn't exactly an everyday 9 to 5. Because of the fact that they do have staff doesn't excuse anything, just makes it seem more contrived when something "slips" through that many "cracks".

"Slipped through the cracks" makes it sound like an accident. Corruption happens on purpose.

I believe he meant the staffers of the politician are bribed so that they "accidentally" overlook something or other.

Though, I don't think they need to do something this elaborate.

Those in office know exactly how they got to be there, and who it is they really work for.

Rules and accountability? You must be joking, I can almost hear Leona Helmsley's voice saying it - That's only for the little people.

Now if we pesky constituents would just get that through our thick skulls maybe then they could get some real work done.

I am ofended by people screaming "somebody has to do something". If you're going to complain then do something about it. The biggest problem confronting ATS is people shouting about how unfair everything is but not participating in any sort of solution - even thought of a solution. If you don't have ideas, ASK.

And as I said, NO company should be this powerful, this big. This is a sellout to the citizens of every nation. Monsanto WILL be the new government, at least in the USA. Other countries have a choice, the USA doesn't because Monsanto really is the government ......in drag!

Monsanto are the terrorists that we should stop. The entire corporation is evil and they seem like they can break the law and not be punished. GMO was designed to kill us and they know that. We all need to take them out before they take us out. This will spread world-wide until they are stopped.

That is exactly what Thomas Jefferson wanted. He even said that the country should have a revolution every hundred years to keep the goverment honest.

Honestly, it is time for the military to step in and do something about this. Outside of possibly Russia and China, Monsanto and their helpers are the greatest threat to the US, and possibly to the human race in general. It is literally quite possible that Monsanto has a better chance of wiping out life on Earth than any maniac nuclear-armed nation or even group of nuclear powers does. Radiation fades, but barren land, which is a likely ultimate outcome of GM terminator seeds (not to mention the many other problems Monsanto causes/can cause, will cease to support life the moment the canned goods run out.

I am not kidding, exaggerating, or being facetious when I say I believe the US Military, given their oaths, shoukd act on this immediately. I also believe, given the biological and chemical warfare being perpetrated by this terrorist organization masquerading as a corporation, should result in immediate action by the POTUS, and a strongly-worded press release by the UN (ok, that's a crack at the UN, but really, we spent $2T decimating Iraq because they *might* have had illegal weapons. Can we spend a few million to destroy the worst, most evil, most dangerous terrorist organization on the planet?

If they aren't going to be stopped somehow, then please let there be a hell so that every contributor at and to Monsanto's cause, at least those who realize what it is they're doing, can burn eternally.

I would literally let a crack addict into my home before I would even shake hands with a Monsanto exec or one of their helpers in government.

In that case, absolutely, lots of backscratching and favoritism to go around. Both sides. Like you say, these puppets know their masters. Far be it from me to underestimate the underhandedness of any politician or the naivety of any junior staffer.

Some staff would probably need to be let in on it, or perhaps the chief of staff. Just because these guys like letting others do their legwork. That's what leadership is to an extent.

True, we can't really expect accountability... but since there is the illusion that a constituency has a voice it becomes easy to pretend like words matter. The fox is guarding the hen house.

It would seem someone like a US Senator would be acutely aware, therefore complicit. The cash cow does go a long way. It's difficult to walk away from a reliable resource... especially in a 'no questions asked' type scenario.

I went on a school visit to a Monsanto company once. They were back then just starting out with the GM foods. We were all sat in a lab room and they showed us some PR stuff and the odd experiment or two. I sat there as a 14/15 year old being very cyncial about the whole thing, so when it came to the standard PR Q & A session I asked whether or not it was of concern that by placing GM crops in the wild without any study of the long term effects on the ecosystem that they would be responsible for the damage this would cause. They DID NOT like that question at all, and before you could say hey presto the PR visit came to a swift end. And this is from a bottom of the chain company!

Kinds of reminds me of Scientology when they get rough with those who do not conform to their way of thinking or who try to leave the organisation! Scary stuff!

I think this is a cause that everyone agrees with - but, we US citizens are not to the point of being willing to die for freedom like our ancesters (literal and figurative).

The third world and global south will probably fight this war of independence.

A friend from Tawian said what he loved about the US and it's people was they were the first people to learn not to fight on their own territory - to take their battles to other lands and other people. I was horrified but soon realized he was right. This came from a man who's heritage goes back 10, 12 centuries (yes Christians I know the world hasn't been here that long) and still survives intact. The Chinese have learned from us and are fighting proxy wars too.

I don't know much about Chinese contribution and use of GMOs. Anybody?

It sounds like "our representatives" are not doing there job then.
If there are way to many Bills for them to read, then I bet cutting out many lobbyists and special interest groups that write their own legislation would cut the Bills down a sizable amount. We can't have that though since they are getting millions of dollars in kick backs from the same people.

Till these organizations have first amendments rights to free speech and can use them as a way of legalized corruption we will never be free. Monsanto really needs to be stopped. I propose that we have a citizens lobbying bill and make sure these bills are fought with charitable donations. In the same spirit I vow to use my yard to grow vegetables free of gm
