Had started a thread, since, for some reason, this one didn't show in the search. Posting here now, since this was earlier.

So, interesting.....the news reporter was stating, after talking about who he is, that he would also be known as "Peter". In light of the Malachy prophecies, that's interesting. So, self-fulfilling, or is there something more valid about those?

The name of the guy with the Peter the Roman prophesy is St. Malachy

Am I mad? Or did he just mention "end of the world"? Is that even an appropiate thing to say to the crowd for a pope's intruduction?

He didn't say, "the end of the world".

ABC said there are currently "1.6 billion Catholics in the world".

How true is this statement?

yea about that, supposedly there won't be a next time, catholic church is going to crumble/end/be purged during the time of this last one according to the prophecy of St.Malachy, now maybe it's literal, maybe is symbolic but either way it would be end end to the catholic church as you know it

It's not what I understood but even if it's as you say, it's still odd that he said the words "end of the world" in his introduction.
