I was trying some days ago to define Materialism.
I think she can do it best.
Selling her kids in the hopes that it will lead to a happy life with her boyfriend is actually a form of Idealism, the opposite of materialism.edit on 13-3-2013 by LesMisanthrope because: (no reason given)

Exactly. I don't see anything wrong with attempting to get a buck in exchange for her kids. Would it be better if she just advertised she was giving them away? Either way she is not in the position to care for them or doesn't want to. Either way the kids will go to complete strangers. Either way they'll feel unwanted by their biological mother. So why do the circumstances matter? They probably would have been better off sold as a combo. Now they'll probably be separated and spend years in the system. And even if they do get adopted the state will spend way more on them in the meantime than what the mother was asking.
