Afternoon folks!

I don't know if anyone has noticed - or indeed if this has been discussed already - but every .kp website hosted from North Korea has been offline for at least nine hours as of 1230 GMT.

See for yourself, here's a list of .kp websites.

It could be that they are simply experiencing server problems, or have retracted their net to ward off a back door cyber attack - but I think you'll agree this is interesting timing.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Edit:

Here's 4 important .kp sites... none of which are working.

Air Koryo

Korea Central News Agency

Rodong Sinmun - official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Worker’s Party of Korea

Pyongyang Broadcasting Station

Now with an informative link courtesy of bhornbuckle75... With thanks!

Could be isolating themselves or it could be a cyber attack..

Seems to coincide with their threat of cutting contact with south Korea.

All of those websites seem to work.. I checked about 6.. They were all .com or .net though.. I can't seem to find the .kp ones. Also those websites (.kp) are almost all blocked from as far back as february 10th at least in South Korea..

It's certainly possible. It just seems odd that they've taken down cultural diplomacy sites like www.friend.com.kp.

Cyber attack I guess!

Edit:

Oh, sorry - click the thumbnail pic of the websites and it'll take you to another page with the direct .kp links. None of them seem to be working.

Nope - try these four.

Air Koryo

Korea Central News Agency

Rodong Sinmun is the - official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Worker’s Party of Korea

Pyongyang Broadcasting Station

These are all important North Korean sites for internal and external propaganda.

Dennis Rodman has the clout now. He wanted the sites back up, they went up. Never underestimate the power of Dennis.

I have been checking since 7.45h CET/MEZ and they haven't been online since, indeed a weird timing. Information blackout maybe, because of the start of their military drill?

ETA:

just on Twitter -> brute force hacking attack from foreign countries

I translated it into English via Google.

Good eye!

South Korea banks and media report computer network crash...

S&F for you...

Here is the reason this is even applicable...

The latest network paralysis took place just days after North Korea accused South Korea and the U.S. of staging a cyberattack that shut down its websites for two days last week. Loxley Pacific, the Thailand-based Internet service provider, confirmed the North Korean outage but did not say what caused it.
