I hope you aren't planning any personal billboards as artistic expression. Cause you could end up the victim of a drive-by shooting by either Whitey or Browney...or both. Chuckle...

I know there is an LOL....is there a COL? Chuckle out loud?

I've got this to say about all the socialists here who wracked up a huge college loan debt to get your Master's Degree in art interpretation......and you're all working side jobs until a really great paying position in art interpretation opens up somewhere......the first time you get a chance to exhibit what you learned about art interpretation, you fouled up your resume.

COL....CHUCKLE OUT LOUD...

I fail to see the problem with this poster..... I grew up in texas el paso. very mixed culture there. In school I used to be hassled by students and teachers for speaking spanish. The teachers only spoke english in class even if they knew spanish.

Nothing she stated in that video said to me to revolt. It said yeah you have mexican heritage and it is okay to be that way.

I will be honest. People look down on you for not being white. I experienced all that crap when I came to the midwest. When I would date women here their family usually had a problem with it and they gave me # about it simply because I was not white.

After graduating college and got my first job one of the first things said to me by one guy I was working with for three months. "when I heard you were coming to work for us and I knew you were mexican I didin't know what to expect but you are like us you are alight."

I am white and have spent more than one white mans share of time around non whites and they do the same thing.....check you out see if your ok.....not a sterotypical "white' person. Make comments like the one made to you. If you want a list of comments just ask.

Yeah,

This is a great thread for denying ignorance.

One detail of Guevarra's painting that I would like to bring to everyone's attention is this...

That would be the very obvious Aztec design that Guevarra used to create the 'fence' that the people are 'revolting' behind.

Please take a moment to compare and contrast the artistic device of the Aztec design used by the artist, with the quote that she chose to explain her ethos...

“By changing ourselves we can change the world, that traveling El Mundo Zurdo (the left hand world) path is the path of a two-way movement– a going deep into the world, a simultaneous recreation of the self and a reconstruction of society."
-Gloria Anzaldua for Nancy Guevarra

nancyedithguevara.org...

What she is suggesting that the 'people' 'revolt' against is their past, which is holding them back from participating in the future; which is now.

She, in a way, is telling Hispanic Americans and Hispanics in general to 'shut up and mind your own business'.

I won't say that this thread is a fail.

But Alex Jones' attempt at screwing with all of our minds over this by twisting the story is a monumental fail.

Fail, Alex Jones; a miserable fail. Please go away.

Read much history? Revolutionary talk from Mexicans is great............ Assuming their doing it in Mexico and not on a billboard in the U.S.

Were there a whole bunch of Mexicans lined up to fight the red coats when this country was founded or was there long, bloody and drawn out battles between the U.S. and Mexico over land disputes?

Mexican Americans promoting political change of America good. Mexicans promoting pro Mexican Nationalistic uprising in the US bad.

If this billboard was in English and said rise up. with mob of people holding signs.. most everyone on here would be "hell yeah! rise up against the feds! ron paul! yar yar yar!" (for the record i love ron paul)

but no since its in spanish you automatically assume something else.

You really are a navie person just out of the box. The fact that its in spanish does add to the definition of the whole and when taken as part of the whole. Not all of us are stupid out here. There are several communications on that board and one of them points clearly at a race identification icon. Can you tell what it is?

Did the artist say it was a fence? It looks like a shield and/or a blended in cultural ID icon.

I live in Texas and pass this board all the time. I will try and take a real photo of it and get it to this thread

Wouldn't the heart and the map of both countries also mean -- rise up my people, wherever you are!

That all are united and all need to rise up against oppression?

And maybe there's a more universal message in there... why are we divided and hating each other, when most of us are of the same caste. Shouldn't all of us, of all colors, stand united against those who oppress us all?

Divide et impera.

The state does not order us. We order the state......Adolph Hitler

Socialists are always on the lookout for a Messianic leader to offer unrealistic promises impossible to keep.

The problem for the socialists of the Breakdance Obama Party is they are dismayed discovering that Americans are NOT cowering in fear of them.

Just for good measure...

Nancy Guevarra won a 2011 contest funded by Reagan National Advertising called, Art for The Masses, wherein 10 winners had their art displayed on billboards in Austin which are owned by RNA.

This is from the artist's website, and I assume that it is the ethos behind her painting.

“By changing ourselves we can change the world, that traveling El Mundo Zurdo (the left hand world) path is the path of a two-way movement– a going deep into the world, a simultaneous recreation of the self and a reconstruction of society."

At the very least, the work of all the winners in the contest would have to be compared before crying out "social engineering!", or what have you concerning any conspiracy theory.

Also, in my opinion, the quote provided by the artist is stunningly beautiful.

Well they say one of the hallmarks of good art is that it gets people emotionally and intellectually involved, and this thing sure has pissed a lot of people off and has them talking. I say bravo. I live in Texas and I haven't heard anyone complain about this before so it must not be too incendiary as far as I'm concerned. Another aspect of good art is that it is up for interpretation and the OP obviously chose to interpret this billboard in a way that arouses anger and suspicion, a viewpoint that many others have seemingly not taken. I sleep poorly as it is, I won't allow this to upset me. There's nothing to be upset about.

Mexican uprising? LOL did any of you (meaning the ermergerd the brown people are coming people) bother to watch the excruciatingly long 2 minute video where she describes what the piece is about? Pride in your heritage, that's it.

I think most of the American born hispanics look at something like that and laugh. Mexico sucks, the government is hopelessly corrupt and jobs are scarce, if the southwest became Mexican, the misery would just move north. Most American born Hispanics appreciate Mexico but most wouldn't want to live there or have their government where people are victimized by cartel violence and cant depend on law enforcement to protect them or the government for that matter. Illegals who work here send their money home and live together here cheaply so they can save go back home and live like kings. They appreciate the US. The US pays their bills and livelihood not Mexico. So why would they want that? That billboard was probably made by La Raza a racist hispanic organization.

Before your last sentence - I was thinking you meant the Ryan worship of the repulicans, or the Paul (father & son) worship of tea-party & libertarians. I can name others.

Great Hitler quote.

Hmmm, well that's slightly suggestive.
Lately, it would almost seem, that there is a secret agenda trying to bring about class warfare.

Check this out, a good friend of mine is really into the WWE wrestling programming. Yes, when Inwas younger, I followed it to a certain extent, but nowadays I just watch when it's on at a friends place. Well, the WWE just introduced a very 'opinionated' character a few weeks ago. His name is Zeb Colter. Now, like I have said, I'm familiar enough with wrestling promos, and the ones that this guy delivers do not sit right with me and are not the usual standards. I definately feel some sort of agenda here. Research the character further.
Here is a video of one of his WWE promos,

I felt very uncomfortable watching this. I mean, half the audience is of Hispanic roots, you can just feel the uneasiness in the crowd. What exactly are they trying to achieve here? They have taken much political backlash yet keep pushing this character, which is unusual. What do you guys think?
