DNA Makes A Great Flame Retardant For Cotton Fabric

Scientists dipped cotton fabric in a solution containing DNA taken from herring sperm. Once it dried, they tried to set it on fire. While the untreated cotton burned completely within 80 seconds, the DNA-treated fabric was slow to catch on fire and the flame went out within two seconds.

Another great discovery... Herring sperm is flame retardant. They are not entirely sure how to make use of this discovery in a way that would benefit people but I'm sure they will come up with something pretty soon.

It just makes me wonder who would think to try this in the first place? Think about it for a second... Somebody actually had an idea of dipping cotton fabric in a solution with herring sperm in it, and then try to set it on fire!

I would have never thought of that.. I guess that's why I'm not a scientist.

Too bad Bill Clinton wasn't a herring.
He could have claimed that he was fireproofing Monica's dress to protect her from lit cigars.

Scene.....
Male herring swims up to female herring at a bar.
"Hey baby! Wanna be fireproof?

She slaps him.

It could happen.

If they use human DNA, it will become a fire hazard.

You know...spontaneous combustion and all

Flight suits.

My flight uniform is nomex. While it is flame resistant, it certainly would benefit from this sort of fabric treatment.

Would it? Who knows. Perhaps human DNA would do the same thing. Just have to get enough all at once to test it on a small piece of material.

Perhaps whale DNA would work. Easy to collect some large samples.

Hmm

So why are you here talking to us when it sounds like you've got quite a bit of work on your hands?

With my staying power I would be dead before I could get enough to complete the experiment.

India needs a new industry, doesn't she? 1.2 Billion people
