Out shopping at the other day i noticed a police car across the park from me in Southampton, Hampshire, UK. It was a bit of a distance from me but it looked like a US style police car.

With the minimal zoom on my phone i managed to get a picture, i just wondered if it was a real one or a mock up?

I thought if the public here bought ex police cars, they had to remove the lights and other such attachments?

Could it be a visiting one? It's just something you don't see a lot here.

It's on an exchange visit, such as when the "Flying Scotsman" went to the US.

LAPD cars say police under the crest, and US police lights feature the blue bar on the right side red on the left.

Lol no i wondered if it was a legit one visiting. I've seen older ones (Blues Brothers style) here at American car shows, but nothing as modern as this.

Looks quite a lot like this one that you can hire for weddings in hampshire.

That one doesnt seem to have the large LAPD sticker though, maybe they updated it

Not true for every Police Department. For example, Chicago has solid light blue lights on top.

There's a bloke who has a spot in the same yard we use and he stores american police cars, ambulances and fire engines. He hires them out for proms and hen nights etc. Maybe this one in your OP is from a similar company?

I Live in LA and that does not look like a cruiser to me.

I have never seen an LAPD Crown Victoria with solid red lights.

And Zonetripper is right about it saying "police" below the crest.

To all american members:

see that? When a brit sees an american car that looks like a brick on wheels but it has slight round edges, he thinks its "modern by american standards"!

that was awesome mate
"modern"... cheers!

You're welcome.

Thanks for the replies everyone, the "hire" thing sounds pretty much like the most reasonable answer.

Next time i see it. i'll go over and ask. If i get tazered, beat up or shot.....i'll know it's real.
