I live in Raleigh and my electric flickered like 3 times in a row like 10 mins ago and no one was using any extensive electric of any sort so i was wondering if maybe it was a sunspot or something else maybe. Can anyone give me any details? I don't think it was anyone knocking down an electric pole cause then my electric would be out completely right now.

Solar flares don't affect your electricity so it wasn't that.

If they are big enough they can

No. Not only is the sun not releasing any flares at the moment, if it were, your main power company, whomever provides the power to you, would feel the effects, not just your home.

And we would know if one big enough occurred.

The sun is flat lined at the moment.

No. They can't.

The electromagnetic energy of solar flares is entirely absorbed by the upper atmosphere. That's why we need satellites to detect and measure them.

Perhaps you are thinking of the effects of CMEs. They can cause geomagnetic activity which can affect power grids. There is currently no geomagnetic activity to speak of.

well I was wondering if anyone else was having any issues, thats why i was asking, it just seemed really odd. Its not windy out at all. I guess it was just a surge and thats all.

aren't CME's solar flares?

from wikipedia

Coronal mass ejections are often associated with other forms of solar activity, most notably solar flares

thats why i said what i said, cause it usually occurs when solar flares happen

That's right. Often but not always. And CMEs usually arrive days after the flare occurs.
As I said, the CME can cause geomagnetic activity which can affect power grids. As I said, there is currently no unusual geomagnetic activity.

You don't need bad weather to be the cause of a power outage.
Could be a bad driver,a bad transformer,it could be like what happened in my neck of the woods when a old tree decided to just fall over.

do you think this could be possibly related to military tests? cause in a post i created like a week ago about military escorting a ufo to a base maybe they are using power to restore it? i don't know just trying to figure out what the cause is cause as I said theres no bad weather.

I have no idea.
Maybe a car hit a power pole and the circuit was rerouted.

I wouldn't bother spending much more time thinking about it.

Two weeks ago,my microwave would only half way work and other strange things were going on with my power like the lights would flicker when running the dryer or vacuum cleaner.
Turned out the ground wire coming from the pole had broken.
I spotted it and called the power company and they fixed it at no expense from me.

Have you visually inspected those wires coming to your place?
