sprocket, blah and rigel - thanks , I do back up [ mostly ] and I would love to try a system other than windows.
As I said - the infections could have come from any where , but I was just checking and am reassured by the feedback.

I have the perfect solution for you. If you decide you wanna try out Ubuntu, there's a great thing you can use. It's called Wubi. It's developed by the developers of Ubuntu(can't remember their name). It allows you to install Ubuntu as an application(but recognized as a "Windows" operating system). It easily removes right inside of Windows inside of Add/Remove programs.

Wubi

You can also try it online if you would prefer not to install anything

Ubuntu with gnome shell (usually)
tried out Netrunner recently and liked it, but still favouring Ubuntu.

I love Ubuntu. It runs great on my laptop, which has an Intel Pentium Dual Core. I use Chromium on it and it benches almost(if not as good or better) as good as Firefox on my gaming rig which uses a 3570K.

I run linux on my pcs. Much safer than letting windows look after all my stuff.

Whatever makes you feel good .
Linux is secure so is Windows.
In the end security is not just about the OS so I really wish the folks that scream "Linux is everything" would stop but I know that won't happen.
