I'm listening to TV, unfortunately yes.
I'm talking to people and reading to user comments on articles in news websites.

People are actually attacking Rand Paul for what he did!
They are actually saying he was wrong to do what he did and was offensive and unamerican.

One idiot even said that the only reason why Rand did this was because he knows that many ultra-right wing groups are extremists and he wants to protect right-wing racist militias.

Everyone is protecting Obama because of partisan reasons.
What's wrong with people?

Especially if they consider themselves Democrats, do they not know what the Magna Carta was really all about?
It's not about oh he's going to do this or that, it's he shouldn't be allowed to whether he does it or not.
But these brainwashed people represent such a large number, I can't believe how many people were against what Rand heroically did.

The NDAA president has nothing but the best interest in you right?
Ask Bradley Manning!

What's wrong with people?????

Most people are just uninformed about current events, and they usually side with the trendy ideals of public figures who appear on TV!

It's trendy to root for your favorite political theater actor.

While, no doubt, there are some left wing media personalities criticizing Rand Paul over his filibuster; there are many others who are not. Just yesterday, on MSNBC, both Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow applauded Rand for his efforts.

just sayin'

This is what our nation has come to. Relying on the media to tell them how to think. I heard from a friend that some pundit on MSNBC, during the filibuster, made the "militia extremist" comment. MSNBC followed up with a "Are Militia's a dangerous threat to America, currently" poll . . . 94% thought they were and the government needed to do something about it.

You know it's bad when his own party is saying the same things, because they know his Libertarian ideas don't fit their platform.

I'm pretty sure the average American wishes to live in a totalitarian world, where they don't have to take responsiblity for themselves.

Sad, really.

It's why we're screwed. The vast majority are clueless about their government, the laws, history or even who represents them. The Man on the Street stuff Leno and others do, just illustrates how dumbed down most Americans have become. They know more about the Jersey Shore characters than they do about their Congress. Heck most couldn't tell you who Joe Biden is or who the VP is if you asked them in the same question.

Then you have the shills who stir the pot and create the frenzy. It's a lost cause. We're ripe for takeover. Now I understand the interest in Zombies. They're everywhere

people are idiots, always have been, always will be.. they will all get what they deserve as history repeats itself and we doom ourselves to continue the cycle of life that we have been in for thousands of years.

I expected the republicans to ream him on it but I was a bit surprised to see him get chastised by the MSNBC crowd, as well. They were the ones defending Ron Paul when FOX hated him so I sort of expected them to give Rand a pass at least this once. I can understand saying "his heart was in the right place but it wasn't effective" but these guys (Lawrence O'Donnell comes to mind) were calling him a lunatic and mad man.

Sucks to see how easy media personalities can sell out.

Everyone that did or does not support Paul on the idea that flying armed drones over American cities and killing Americans, is abetting the concept of the police-state.

Republicans and democrats should be ashamed of themselves!

Two comments. First, Paul is there to support, speak and fight for the will of the people he represents. As far as I'm concerned...he is fighting for us all. The problem is that everyone else (with some exceptions) are fighting for nothing but themselves, their continued employment, power and money. Rand is one of the few politicians that actually believes that "We The People" ARE America.

Second...of course people are bitching. How dare anyone say anything not 100% positive about the administration, the president (lower case on purpose) and his pocket-pals. I mean...I know they think they are above the law, the constitution and probably God...BUT I DON'T!

I've seen many republicans attack rand as well. Lindsey Grahm came out and took a sweeping shot at everyone who sided with him, and even played the "where were you under bush" card, John McCain is blabbering about it as well. Both parties have their reasons to try to paint Rand as a crazy on this issue.

They can't explain because they don't have a clue what they're talking about. All that person knows is "He's a Republican". It's doubtful they know who Rand Paul is as well.

Dude, that kind of retort isn't what we normally do here. This board is filled with all stripes. ATS has our Christians, Jews, Buddhists, and even some Witches. We have our Republicans, Democrats, Liberals, Conservatives, Communists, and Socialists. We have a bit of everything and welcome it all except for blatant and willful ignorance.

Name calling and blanket terms like what you just used isn't going to get many intelligent reactions here. Just relax and add something that makes you think. You seem like a guy who would have some valid input on ATS (being a vet and all) so what do you really think about what he was saying?

Do you think he did any good with his postponing speech?

I had no idea how effective the PSYWAR was till some of these issues have surfaced lately......
The screwed concept is getting more viable in my estimation...
Screwed to resist, Screwed not to...screwed by just about every branch of the PTB.....
DHS IS the police state in action.....if Americans cannot comprehend this fact and react with a united resistance to the immense powers now in the hands of the government we are indeed screwed.....
No denying it, will ever change the facts....

Where have we seen this before... terrible President stripping away freedoms one by one - Then, suddenly, a Senator emerges from the shadows, playing the role of Hero, instilling his followers with cult like devotion and admiration?

They are so confident they didn't even bother changing up the plotline. They simply inverted every party specific descriptor and handed out the scripts. Obama was marketed as the antiBush. Paul will be marketed as the antiObama... and while we're busy staring at the people, the things will remain the same.

If I sound disillusioned it's probably because I absolutely am.

Tisk, tisk, tisk Heff! Giving up on Obama a mere 2 months into his new term. Give it some time...he has 46 months left to truly disappoint you.

You must not be following the libertarian crowd much
There is no cult-like following for RAND Paul
A large number of libertarians disagree with his foreign policy and his comments on Iran.

Rand did not emerge from any shadow and does not have a cult-like following whatsoever.

Obama was NEVER a savior!
Hope and Changed did not fool me or anything with half a brain
Gimmicky words while he refused to define it, I hardly think Rand compares to such tactics.
That's just a surface level critique

Rand Paul's critics are all of the usual suspects who fight anyone who tries to prevent the government from taking more control and power, McCain being among the worst offenders.

I look at these people, and the billion+ bullets and armoured vehicles purchased by DHS, the recent release of over 2000 illegal immigrants from prison, and the acceptance of drone killing of Americans, and it boggles the mind that there are still some who think there is no government conspiracy. Stupidity knows no bounds.

That makes me so mad. His act was the absolute opposite of unAmerican. It was extremely American. First of all, others have fillibustered and not gotten this much heat, which leads me to believe it is either due to who he is, or what he is standing up for. How can anyone sit there and say that he is wrong or not patriotic because he is standing up for the CONSTITUTION. I'm so sick of people who have no regard for this document, as they are simply ignorant for not realizing this is the most significant document, and law document, in this country.

This is the legal document that makes the US what it is, and disregard for it is what is unpatriotic and unAmerican. There is absolutely ZERO wiggle room here. You either support the Constitution or you don't. The actions of the president show that he does not have any regard for our most important laws. The Constitution can be altered, but there are channels that must be used, and one person cannot simply disregard the laws of this document because they fell like it, not even the president of the US.

The quicker some of you get this through your heads, the quicker you will be on your way to becoming a true American, not just in the sense that you live in the US, but in the sense that you support your country in the correct way. As I've said many times on ATS, agreeing with whatever the government says or does does not make you a patriot. Standing up for the Constitution and the freedoms it provides is what makes someone patriotic. Supporting the wars overseas does NOT make one patriotic either, despite what ignorant people like to believe.
