Hey all,
I am in Los Angeles County and just felt and heard a sonic boom, or at least that's what it seemed like. Loud bang that shook the house. Anyone else? It was about 4 minutes ago, so 10:55 am or so.

What just entered the atmosphere?

Don't think any space shuttles were coming in at Edwards, which is not too far up the road from me.(40 miles?) Edit to add, I am joking about space shuttles of course.

Don't think it was an earthquake, didn't act like one.

I will post more if information comes up, but if you've got something I'd like to know.

A total wild guess would be meteor coming in?

So far your the only one to hear it. I have seen no reports anywhere. Leads me to believe it was possibly nothing to worry about.
ETA: It appears that there is a thunderstorm going on, with some reports of hail in the Los Angeles area at the moment.

I just took a screen grab of the abc7.com quake cam and it shows a jolt or some sort. Will paste in a minute. Probably something, just nothing to go on, beyond a jolt.

I guess anything is possible, but we've got partial blue skies right now. A few clouds floating over here and there. No weather to speak of anywhere near me. Certainly not hearing any thunder.

Oh well, probably nothing. Carry on.

Was going to paste my screen grab, but it shows the rest of my desktop that I don't want showing and having trouble cropping it, so nevermind.

You say you live near edwards air force base, this leads me to believe you heard of jet or 2 break the sound barrier. I live near a base also, and they have been doing a lot of extra training lately it seems. Usually I don't hear jets around my area often, since the main base is about 15 minutes away, but lately they've been flying over my area a lot more. No conspiracy, just a little odd, but considering north korea is making threats, I'm sure they are doing more training.

or it could've been another meteor, but I'd think it would be on the news by now though.

I also live near edwards and I heard three booms. two were close and then my wife texted me asking wtf was that? then a third one came.

Possibly jets I have seen some odd activity lately. This isnt first time recently we have heard booms. My buddies in LA didnt report hearing anything so it might only have been up in the AV. rattled the windows a bit.

few days ago I saw a low flying boeing 747 escorted by a f-16 (could have been a different jet but im pretty sure it was f-16.) coming from the LA area going north in direction of ridgecrest. I watched it go past edwards so it didnt land there.

Possible theory I have floating in my head is that the sounds we heard were earthquake booms. earthquake.usgs.gov...

The area between SD and LA has been very quiet for earthquakes past two days possible that the booms were missed earthquakes.

You arnt crazy though I can confirm there were three loud ones. (wife reported 5 total 3 loud 2 softer) she is only 10 mins on the I-14 from edwards.

I'm down the 14 towards Santa Clarita, so I might have not been close enough to hear/feel all three, just one.

There was a jolt on the L.A. quake cam consistent with when I felt it. Definitely not your typical earthquake marker just a thin straight up line on the drum.

I've never heard of earthquake booms as you say. I am thinking it was a sonic boom and some sort of plane flew in over us. It's not normal where I am to hear sonic booms, but not unheard of either, maybe once a year I notice one?

Holy crap ! That was loud as hell Sunny I thought it was just thunder but it only happened once. Bout 20 minutes ago right ? I'm all the way out in apple valley and I know we're speaking of the same event. It was so loud out here it scared the crap out of me.

You are confirmed.

I'm so excited I make a dooble posty. My God that was loud ! I believe if it were a sonic boom it would be far more
localized. We're at least 50 miles apart you and I. You'll be getting far more confirmations I'm sure. I'd describe it as a BLA-

BLAAAAM !

It happened around 10:55 am our time(pacific). I know they are reporting possible thunderstorms and obviously snow above you, so you might have heard thunder, I don't know, but the thing I experienced seemed like a typical sonic boom. Just a loud boom and the windows and house shakes for a second. I know what thunder sounds like, and this wasn't it.

I'm sure you do too, so, who knows....at least you all have confirmed I heard Something. Partial sunny skies right now. No rain or thunder or lightening here.

We heard the same exact thing Sunny. When I heard it, we were under partially sunny skies and it was trhe only occurrence all day. And the news isn't reporting thunderstorms. Just rain and snow.

Again no thunder at all up here just that one loud crack I know we both heard.

Now im starting to think not a sonic boom. if you each only heard 1 boom then I am thinking meteorite entering and blowing up in the atmosphere (probably micro so cant see a fireball but loud enough to hear it)

reasoning being it was distinct in lancaster 3 booms fairly close together. first was def loudest my theory is that something entered atmosphere in our area and blew up. causing the first big bang to be heard farther away. the fragments then exploded causing secondary and 3rd booms for people closer to the source (according to my wife 5 total booms in decreasing strength and loudness) hypothetically a

Bingo . Now you're talk'in to me. Still no thunder at all. Meteorite is highly possible.
